Students from across North Queensland have put their hydrogen-powered cars to the test during a practice race on 11 June as teams prepare for the regional final of the Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP), delivered by Horizon Educational in partnership with Townsville Enterprise and North Queensland Hydrogen Consortium

The global H2GP program challenges students to design, build and race hydrogen-powered remote-control cars, introducing them to real-world engineering, renewable energy technologies and teamwork in a competitive environment.

𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗢𝗖𝗔𝗖𝗬 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧: The State Government has announced today an additional $800m towards delivering the CopperString project.

That's a record $3.2 billion in the upcoming 2026-27 State Budget, as ground is broken this week on the Flinders Substation in Hughenden.

Director Chris McDougall said this investment is a defining moment for North Queensland and the nation as the region sets itself apart as a powerhouse for mining, industry and energy futures.

𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗢𝗖𝗔𝗖𝗬 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧: The State Government has announced a new bus service between Townsville Airport and key locations across the CBD.

The service, known as Route 222, will only cost 50 cents and will begin June 29, stopping at 16 locations across the city centre and strand, including North Ward, Queens Gardens, Tobruk Memorial Baths, Breakwater Ferry Terminal, Palmer Street and Central Park.

Director Chris McDougall said thanked the Crisafulli Government and Adam Baillie MP for his tireless advocacy.

“This service will make it much easier for visitors to access our accommodation, dining and attractions as soon as they arrive, powered by Townsville City Council's historic investment in growing our visitor economy," he said

“Affordable, reliable transport is essential for a growing destination like Townsville."

Recent high-profile events (e.g. Foo Fighters, NTI Townsville 500) and over 50,951 visitors have generated $61 million, boosting confidence from national promoters and delivering benefits to local businesses and tourism.

The multi-channel regional campaign (print, digital, billboards, radio) aims to drive visitation, increase exposure, and build on Townsville’s rising status as a destination capable of hosting major national and international events.
