Cairns Mayor Amy Eden and Deputy Mayor Brett Olds had the chance to catch up with Deputy Premier and Queensland Treasurer, Hon Cameron Dick MP, 2024–25 Queensland Budget Series event at the Pullman Cairns International last night.
It was another opportunity for us to relay our thanks to The Treasurer for the State Government’s commitment of $195 million for the Cairns Water Security Stage 1.

This funding will provide substantial relief to our ratepayers, who are facing significant cost-of-living pressures and the financial impacts of Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

The State Government has stepped up for our community and we’ll now work with the State to secure a matched Federal commitment. Such a commitment on this project would send the message to the people of Cairns that all three levels of government are optimistic about the future prosperity of the city.

The 2024–25 Queensland Budget Series event was presented in Cairns as a partnership between Advance Cairns and Queensland Treasury.
