Fun start to Magnetic Island Race Week⛵️ with the Star 106.3 Townsville Longest Lunch, raising funds for The Cure Starts Now Australia. A great afternoon, relaxed island vibes and plenty of laughs.

And there’s lots more to come! Tomorrow we’re jumping on SeaLink North Queensland for the Townsville Airport Island Breeze Festival in Picnic Bay with markets, food stalls, kids zone, radio controlled yachting regatta sandcastle competitions, the inflatable race and plenty of family fun.

Every night until Wednesday 2nd September there will be live music on the deck at
Peppers.

Maggie is definitely the place to be this weekend! 🌴🍹🎶

Last week was very significant for North and North West Queensland.

At first glance, the announcements might seem like a series of unrelated news stories:

• Consultation opening for the Mount Isa Transformation Study.

• A joint $160 million support package for the Phosphate Hill fertiliser facility.

• A $200 million North West Energy Fund.

• $20 million for road and utility upgrades to support industry.

• Continued progress on CopperString, with McCosker Contracting awarded the bulk earthworks contract for the Flinders Substation.

But they’re not separate at all. They’re all part of the same regional economic story.

One of the most interesting articles I read recently explores the complexity of the copper value chain across North and North West Queensland. It really highlights how intrinsically connected our regional economies are and the scale of the opportunity in front of us.

When we talk about copper in Townsville, it’s easy for the conversation to jump straight to CopperString. But CopperString is the enabler, not the opportunity itself.

The bigger opportunity lies in the entire value chain.

From mining and processing through to affordable energy, transport, manufacturing, exports and the businesses that support them, every link in that chain creates jobs, investment and economic activity across our region.

That’s why today’s announcements matter.

The Mount Isa Transformation Study asks how do we maximise the long-term economic opportunity for North and North West Queensland?

The prosperity of Townsville, Mount Isa and communities across the North West isn’t separate, it’s interconnected. Decisions made hundreds of kilometres inland have a direct impact on jobs, investment, exports, growth and resilience right across our region.

This isn’t just about mining. It’s about building long-term regional opportunity that has the potential to shape our economy for decades to come.

For more than a decade, we’ve had the privilege of delivering media training to participants in the Theatre iNQ Bridge Program, helping emerging performers build confidence and communication skills for interviews and media opportunities.

Last month, Heidi worked with the current group of talented “Bridgees,” providing practical one-on-one interview coaching and media training. Along the way, she also got an exciting preview of The House of Bernarda Alba, and what a production it promises to be.

When Heidi started Crystal Clear PR in Townsville in 2009, she could see that this region was full of extraordinary organisations, businesses and people doing remarkable things, but not always telling their story well. The more she scratched the surface of our city, the more gems she discovered.

Since then, the work has evolved, the model has changed, the region has grown, and so has Crystal Clear. Along the way, we have worked on dozens of major events, navigated media crises, tackled stakeholder challenges, coached founders and emerging leaders, pivoted through a global pandemic and spent two years with Heidi leading the Townsville Chamber of Commerce. All while sharing hundreds of great stories and shining a light on the businesses and people that make North Queensland what it is.

Over almost two decades, it has been a privilege to work alongside more than 200 organisations across government, industry and community. Every chapter has shaped the way we work, and every collaboration has deepened our understanding of what it really takes to get things done in this region.
