Starting in 1994 in a warehouse with nothing more than a sign-wall and a set of brushes, Philip John began the Signs of Excellence story with brilliant murals, exciting design and out of the box thinking. He began as a ticket writer but his love for colour and murals saw him get a gig working at Channel 9 for the long-running variety show “Hey Hey It’s Saturd
ay” and Australian movies. "Spotswood", "Garbo" in late 80's and early 90's. Phil was involved in set design and a raft of other shows and promotions for the station. After moving to Townsville in 1992 and having worked in other sign shops, he decided to open at his own business with the true adventure of his Australian spirit. Since then, Phil has worked on a number of iconic signs and designs in Townsville at the same time helping many business owners start their own visions with great designs alongside his genuine down to earth service. The industry has changed alot over the past 20 years, although at Signs of Excellence we have embraced technology and hi-tech machinery to produce high volume signs in fast turnaround times, whilst maintaining quality at an affordable price. We remain to bring our clients solutions in digital and traditionally sign-writing and introduce new techniques in true artistry with our 3d Themed Signs. We continue to think out of the box and uphold great old fashioned down to earth service. Our 20+ year history in Townsville stands tall with our association of the many people we have worked alongside in business and equally we’re excited about servicing the ever growing businesses of tomorrow in North Queensland.
