I don't want to.

Kinda chic to let people be wrong about you.
People think I just do social media. Truth is, digital marketing is your whole communication process online, and much of what I do is unglamorous back end admin work.

Apparently I give off chronically online vibes. Turns out I'm just good at making it look that way, for myself and for my clients.

I took a chunk of time away from Instagram this year. I came back to a platform that had quietly changed.
Six things that are different now.
Most of them are actually good news if you run a small business.

You can reorder your grid without deleting posts. You can fix a carousel after you've hit share. You can swap the audio on something that did well without losing the numbers it earned.

Views count differently too. If yours have dropped, that's worth reading properly before you panic about it.

And your posts can now turn up in Google. Which means the words in your captions are doing more work than they used to.

None of this needs you to post more. It just needs you to know what the tools do now.

Swipe through, save it, come back to it when you need it.

Some weeks you don't get to choose how you show up. You just have to show up sad, exhausted, grieving, whatever it is, because the work doesn't pause for any of it.

I know this one from the inside. It's why I built support into how I work now, whether that's me stepping in when your headspace is gone, or the same AI tools I lean on myself.

You don't have to carry all of it solo. If that's where you're at, my 1:1 sessions are open, come say hello.

I didn't write these for anyone else.
I wrote them for me.

After Dad died, and everything that came with that, I kept waiting for someone to tell me it was alright to stop. To let things drop. To not be across all of it at once.

Nobody did. That's not how it works when it's your name on the business.

Here's the thing though. You don't actually need permission. Not from me, not from anyone.
But some days you need to hear that you have it. That's a different thing.

If one of these is the one you needed today, it's yours.

An office space reset with a focus on creativity and pruning the grape vine has me thinking in circles.

Specifically wreaths, the last time I made them was catharsis for my soul after a troubling period. This time it's just as needed, but I'm thinking less seasonal (Xmas), more sculpture.....a stretching of the creative muscles while my socials work softly continues in the background.

I've been away from my desk for a while. Recalibrating and redirecting my energy. Finding my feet after the world capsized and righted itself.

I'm back on screens now, dreaming up new ways to work in this digital world, crafting stories and creating spaces.

If you've been sitting on a digital space that needs fixing, endlessly looping on a story that needs to be told, or just something from the "should probably deal with this eventually" pile, I'm taking bookings again.

Lost somewhere between the sea and the sun....
I'm holding on so tight to any glimmers I can find right now.

Two beautiful days for my fathers farewell.
A yacht full of family.
The sun, sparkling on my favourite body of water.
A tiny but trusted triangle of friends.
My girls with their grandmother.
Moss and mushrooms.
Love without judgement.
The sea.
The sun.
The forest.
Memories.

A year or two ago I had no idea how much I was about to lose.

My mother in law passed away. Friendships I thought were solid quietly drifted, or ended with a gut punch. Clients left too. Some slipped away, others in a way that properly winded me. We moved house...for the fifth time. And now my father has left this earth too.

It has been the hardest year of my working and personal life. The lowest client numbers I've ever had, a flat market, new people doing what I do, and so emotionally stretched I haven't had the energy to spruik my own services.

Earlier this year I came close to giving the whole thing up. I wrote about that at the time.

I didn't give up. I won't pretend I'm in the clear either, or that I've got the next bit worked out, because I don't.

But I'm still here. Still working, still turning up for the people who trust me with their business, still figuring it out as I go. After the year I've had, I'm letting myself be quietly proud of that.

So this isn't a tidy comeback story. It's just me, still standing, still trying. If you're somewhere in the middle of your own hard stretch, still going when going feels pointless, you're in good company.

My father passed away last week.
The man who taught me the value of images and words.

A master of the visual image and born storyteller, he was the source of my creativity. He taught me about photography and literature, about politics and humanity, about philosophy and nature. He gave me the gift of growing up on boats and the ocean.

I am my father's daughter...
And without him, a little piece of me is lost.
Bear with me for a little while as I navigate my return to a world that turns so fast when it should have stopped.
