A bit of Friday fun.

I am way late for this trend, but here we go anyway:

A little from the design vault.

Icons, illustrations, monograms and marks from across the years, all created for very different businesses with very different personalities.

Some are playful. Some are polished. Some are simple little details that had to do a lot of quiet heavy lifting.

That’s the part I love most about brand identity design. It’s never about making everything look like “my style”. It’s about finding the visual language that feels right for the business, the audience and the story behind it.

A mixed bag, in the best possible way.

A medical brand does not always need a medical symbol 🩺🩻

For AVA Orthopaedics, a text based logo was the strongest choice because the business itself already had clarity. Specialist orthopaedic assessment. Online consultations. Clear clinical direction.

The visual identity needed to support that, not over explain it.

It would have been very easy to reach for the obvious ideas. Bones. Joints. Movement lines. A clinical looking symbol. But obvious does not always mean useful, and in healthcare adjacent branding, too much visual noise can make a brand feel less calm, not more credible.

So we let the name lead.

The work was in the detail: the weight of the letterforms, the balance of the spacing, the elegance of the wordmark, and the feeling it created when applied to simple business touchpoints.

That is the thing about refined design. It can look simple when it is finished, but that does not mean it was shallow. It usually means the noisy decisions were edited out.

Introducing the new visual identity for AVA Orthopaedics ✨🌿.

AVA Orthopaedics is a new business offering online only orthopaedic assessment, helping patients access specialist advice, clinical insight and clear next steps earlier in their injury pathway.

For this identity, the brief called for restraint.

Refined. Elegant. Modern. Calm.

Because in a space where people may be dealing with pain, uncertainty, imaging results, referrals and decisions about what to do next, the brand did not need to shout. It needed to feel steady.

The final logo is text based, which I love. No obvious medical icon. No bone graphic. No busy symbol trying to explain the whole service in one mark.

Just considered typography, spacing and proportion creating a sense of professionalism, trust and quiet confidence.

Sometimes the strongest visual identity choice is knowing what not to add.

What do you think: are you team text only logo, or do you usually love an icon? I’m firmly team “whatever serves the brand best.” 🙋‍♀️

If that is on your list, I’d love to help.

Not every business needs a full branding project.

Sometimes what you really need is a go to designer who already understands your brand and can help you keep everything looking consistent as your business grows.

That is where my ongoing design support comes in ✨🙌

I work with clients on the real world design pieces that support day to day business. Things like brochures, flyers, social graphics, presentations, documents, signage, PDFs, campaign assets, and website updates.

It is ideal for businesses who are established enough to care how they present, but do not need an in house designer.

Basically, thoughtful design support without starting from scratch every time.

I’m currently opening space for new ongoing design clients, and I’d love to hear from you if you have been looking for a designer to support your business on an ongoing basis.

One of the biggest things I see with growing businesses is this:

The business itself has evolved beautifully, but the branding, website, and supporting collateral still feel like an older version of the business.

Maybe the visuals feel inconsistent.
Maybe the website no longer reflects the level of service.
Maybe your documents, socials, and marketing pieces all look slightly disconnected.
Maybe you have outgrown the DIY phase, but have not had the time to properly update things.

That gap matters more than people realise.

Because when your visuals do not match the quality of your work, it can quietly affect trust, confidence, and how people perceive your business before they have even spoken to you.

Good design is not just about looking polished. It helps your business feel clear, credible, aligned, and easier to trust.

If you have been feeling that disconnect lately, that is exactly the kind of work I help with.

If your business has outgrown its visuals, I’d love to help you bring them back into alignment.

I’ve been a little quiet on here lately, but very much still in my design world.

Behind the scenes, I’ve been doing what I love most, helping businesses feel more confident and proud of how they show up.

Through Flourishing Brands, I work with businesses who know their visuals matter, but feel like their branding, website, or everyday design assets are no longer doing them justice.

That might look like a visual identity refresh, a website update, or ongoing design support for the real life pieces that keep popping up in business. Things like brochures, documents, social graphics, presentations, flyers, PDFs, and website updates.

Send me a message if your brand, website, or marketing collateral needs some love .

If your business has grown, but your visuals have not quite caught up, I’d love to help.

I’m currently open for new client projects and ongoing design support.

There is a cost to visuals that do not match the quality of your work.

Not a loud cost.
A quiet one.

It is the hesitation before you send your website link.
The moment you think, I will update that later, when someone asks for a capability statement.
The way you avoid promoting an offer because you do not love the design.

That is the quiet shame tax, and it adds up.

If your business is solid but your visuals feel behind, a focused Design Day can polish the pieces your clients actually see.

Comment DAY or DM CONFIDENT and I will tell you what we can realistically improve in one day.

You’re not just paying for the logo – you’re paying for all the logos that didn’t make the cut.

Most people only ever see the polished, final logo.

They don’t see the wobbly pencil sketches (drawing is not my superpower 😅), the ideas I parked because they were “almost right but not quite”, or the concepts that looked pretty but didn’t actually feel like the brand.

For this project, we started with a mess of shapes and scribbles, turned that into several proper logo directions, and then slowly narrowed it down to the one that felt most like the business on its best day. Not the trendiest, not my personal favourite in isolation – the one that made the most sense when we held it up against their story, their clients and where they’re heading.

That’s what my clients are really buying when we work on a visual identity:
not just a nice mark, but a process that says
“this is too safe”,
“this is too busy”,
“this is beautiful but speaks to the wrong person”,
and finally – “this is you.”

If you’ve ever worried that you’ll end up stuck with one random idea a designer had on a Tuesday, this is your reminder: a thoughtful logo is an end point, not a first thought.

🌱
If your current logo was basically “the first one that sort of worked”, and you’re ready for something that’s been properly tested against who you are now, DM me LOGO and I’ll send you details about how to kick off a visual identity project with me in 2026.
