Sometimes I feel like a professional pest… stay with me.
Part of my job is looking after the clients I've already got — and reaching the ones I haven't met yet, who I believe I can help.
And before I ever pick up the phone, I've already had a good look at how a business is showing up online. So by the time I call, I'm not guessing. I can already see the work they're putting in — and the people searching for exactly what they do who never chose them, or worse still, never even saw them. Once I've seen that, it's genuinely hard for me to just leave it alone.
Tradies are the best — lovely on the phone, and far too busy to talk. I get it. I called one bloke on and off for the better part of a year. Always polite, always "yeah, I'm keen, just flat out." I even started saying: "Just tell me to stop calling and I will. But until you do, I'm not going anywhere." He'd just laugh and say, "don't give up on me."
He never told me to stop. What he did, almost a year after my first call, was hand me over to his wife — who has since left her own job to run the business as their manager.
Yesterday we sat down and looked back over a few short months. When we first met, you couldn't find them on the first page of Google. Today they're in the top three.
Here's the thing I've learned after a long time doing this: the biggest regret I hear from people who take my call is that they didn't get to it sooner. So I don't dwell on the looking back — we can't change that. What we can do is look forward, make a plan, and keep growing from here. Together.

I sit in the same spot at church every Sunday. And when I go shopping, I take the same route into town every time — even though my neighbour goes a completely different way and we both end up in the same spot.

We're creatures of habit. Turns out we search the same way too.
Think about how you'd find a plumber. Burst pipe, water everywhere? You're tapping the first thing you see — an ad, a Google Business Profile, whatever gets someone on the phone fastest.

But a bathroom reno you've been planning for months? Different habit entirely. Now you're reading websites, comparing, hunting for the "top 10 best."
And here's what most people never stop to count — there isn't one spot on page one. There's the ads, the top 3 on the map, the platforms like Localsearch, the websites underneath. Different places, and people pick the one their habit takes them to.

Some never touch the ads. Some only click the ads. Some skip straight to a platform like Localsearch to see who's actually available. Same town, same need — completely different paths to get there.

Here's the bit that matters if you run a business: you don't get to pick which habit your next customer has.

So if you're only showing up in one of those spots, you're invisible to everyone whose habit takes them somewhere else.

That's the whole game. Be where they look. Be found.

3.5 years ago I walked away from a 15-year career in technology. The direction it was heading didn't sit right with me, and if I was going to spend my days helping businesses, I wanted it to be something that actually set them up for the future.
Then I stumbled across Localsearch. Had no idea who they were — never heard of them. Turns out they're an Australian company that's been doing this for over thirty years.
So I applied. I didn't know anything about digital marketing. And they gave me the job anyway.
When I started, there were a few quiet whispers. Sure, she can sell — but what would she know about building websites, the Google side, any of the digital stuff?
And here's the thing — they weren't wrong. I didn't know how to build a website.
But what they missed is that I didn't need to. I had a brilliant team behind me handling the technical side. My job was to understand enough to guide and strategise — to work out what a business actually needs, then connect them to the right thing for them.
And funnily enough, I learned that sometimes the right thing is telling them no.
I remember an owner who wanted to go all in — big investment, the lot, straight up. And I told him no. Not yet. So I explained: I could easily take your money right now, but it'd be the wrong call and you'd be wasting it. Build the website first. Once it's done and it actually converts, then we layer the Google Ads on top. Run ads to a website that doesn't convert and it's money straight down the drain.
His eyes glazed over — couldn't believe I wouldn't just take the money. But we staged it properly, and it worked the way it was meant to.
The whispers cost me a couple of early opportunities. Stung for about five minutes — then it lit a fire under me. I decided I'd learn the lot, even the parts I didn't strictly need to. And I did.
Three and a half years on, I've met some of the best people — mostly tradies, but doctors, solicitors, all sorts. And what I've worked out is this: people don't want to be sold to. They want someone in their corner who'll be straight with them about what actually matters and what's a waste of money.
That's the part that lights me up — getting to share the wins, watching a business thrive off a decision we made together back when they weren't even sure. That's the job I love.
It's Friday arvo, and I'm sitting here grateful for the people who took a chance and trusted me. I feel like I'm part of these businesses, not just working with them.
And we're only just getting warmed up.

This was the last time I went fishing… Darwin, 2017.

To be honest, I had no idea what I was doing.

It was one of those boat tours where the guide handled almost everything — including putting the bait on the hook 😂

Somehow, I still caught a fish.

It reminds me a bit of online marketing. A lot of business owners know they should be doing more with their marketing, but like me on that fishing trip, they’re not always sure how to do it effectively.

There’s so much advice out there — websites, SEO, ads, social media — that it’s easy for business owners to feel overwhelmed and not know where to start.

So they don't.

Usually, having the right strategy (and a bit of guidance) makes the whole process much easier.

I definitely can’t make you a better fisherman…

But I can help you work out the right strategy to attract more of the right customers to your business.

If you’d like a hand figuring out where to focus first, send me a message and I’m happy to organise a free 15-minute chat.

WEBSITE LAUNCH

Quarrell Civil Construction's brand new website is now live.

This was a large project, and it was a pleasure working with Briony from Quarrell Civil Construction throughout the process to bring it all together.

A website should do more than just give people information. It should reflect who you are as a business, create the right first impression, and help attract the kind of clientele you want to work with.

That is why getting the strategy, structure and overall feel right matters so much.

A polished new online presence for Quarrells.

Motherhood is the quiet kind of strength that shapes lives long before the world ever sees the result.

Wishing all the incredible mums a very Happy Mother’s Day. 💙

A quiet website does not always mean you need more traffic.

Sometimes the real problem is what people see when they land there.

If your headline is unclear, your services are hard to work out, or your site is not building enough trust fast enough, people leave.

Good businesses lose enquiries this way more often than they realise.

Your website should not just sit there looking nice. It should help people understand what you do, trust your business, and take the next step.

If you want an honest opinion on how your website is really coming across, I offer free website assessments. Message "assessment" if you are interested.

06/05/2026

Before you message me, ask yourself this…

If your business keeps heading in the same direction it is right now, will that be enough?

Because having a website and having a website that actually brings in enquiries are two very different things.

I’ve spoken with a lot of business owners lately who already have a website, but they are still not getting the level of enquiries they hoped for. And if that sounds familiar, you are definitely not alone.

Here's the thing: when there are dozens of businesses offering the same service in one town, not everyone is going to show up on page 1 of Google.

Sometimes, a touch of SEO can make a real difference.
Sometimes, the website itself is what is holding things back.
Sometimes, it is both.

And even if we didn’t build your website, that is completely fine. We can still give you an honest, accurate assessment of what may be affecting your visibility online and what could improve your chances of getting more enquiries.

With people being more careful about where they spend, being found first is more important than ever.

The good news is, it costs nothing to find out.

If you would like a free assessment of your website and online presence, send me a message.

So you watched the video and thought, “That’s pretty basic — my website already has all of that covered.”
Maybe. But if it is not clear in the first few seconds, it can still cost you business.

People are making quick decisions within seconds. That means your website might contain the right information, but if it is not clear, obvious and easy to find, you can still lose trust, enquiries and sales.

If you’re not sure whether your website is doing its job properly, message me.

Great to be along to the Wagga Business Chamber drop-in drinks tonight.

Held at a different venue on the last Wednesday of each month, it’s always a relaxed way to connect with other local businesses and enjoy a few good conversations.

Special mention to Sara — a colleague and friend from my previous role at Viatek. Sara Hartley . Lovely to catch up.

If you haven’t been along before, it’s definitely worth popping in.
