Turf Queensland The Turf Industry Peak Body representing Turf Producers in Queensland.

The Queensland Turf Producers Association (QTPA), now trading as "Turf Queensland" commenced in March 2001 and, believed it was timely to develop a Strategic Development Plan (2003/2006) to support, in a sustainable and professional manner, the next three-year growth of the industry in this state. As is the case with all associations the development of member benefits was paramount and addressing the various issues identified by members through the inclusive research of the Strategic Plan has provided considerable direction for the executive of Turf Queensland.

Turning industry research into better sales!

On Friday, Turf Queensland welcomed growers and industry representatives to our Sales Excellence Workshop, delivered by Brad Jensen from Dynamo Selling.

The session focused on strengthening sales skills, understanding customer behaviour, building relationships, responding to enquiries and, importantly, converting leads into sales.

We also explored findings from the latest Usage, Attitudes and Contribution of Natural Turf research, which highlighted some interesting opportunities for our industry:

🌱 46% of prospective buyers already favour natural turf.

🌱 27% remain undecided or are actively comparing their options.

🌱 Customers rely on an average of just 1.6 information touchpoints before making their purchasing decision.

The takeaway? We have a very short window to influence a customer's decision.

Responding quickly to enquiries, understanding what matters to the customer, addressing concerns and following up effectively can make all the difference.

Brad also took participants through practical techniques for recognising different communication styles, handling objections and confidently closing sales.

A big thank you to Brad Jensen and Dynamo Selling for delivering the workshop, and to everyone who joined us.

This industry capability building session was jointly funded by Hort Innovation, through the turf industry levy, and the Queensland Government's Farm Business Resilience Program (FBRP).

Supporting growers to improve profitability, build resilience and develop their business capabilities remains a key priority for Turf Queensland.

Honouring Eva Ricci – Turf Queensland Hall of Fame

It was a very special and heartfelt moment at our recent Turf Queensland Industry Social as we proudly inducted the late Eva Ricci into the Turf Queensland Hall of Fame.

For more than 15 years, Eva was a passionate voice for the turf industry in Western Australia, before taking that same determination and advocacy to the national stage.

She stood up for growers, challenged ministers, championed apprentices and built relationships that ensured our industry was heard.

But beyond her remarkable contribution to the industry, Eva will be remembered for her generosity, friendship and unwavering support of others.

When Anthony Heilig became the first inductee into the Turf Queensland Hall of Fame, Eva was among those who helped support his nomination. At the time, she wrote:

"He deserves every bit of recognition. Good on Turf Queensland for undertaking this."

She went on to suggest that the same recognition should be extended nationally to those who had given so much to the industry.

That was Eva. Even when celebrating someone else's achievements, she was thinking about how to recognise others.

Eva now joins Anthony Heilig and Lynn Davidson in the Turf Queensland Hall of Fame, a fitting tribute to a woman whose influence and legacy extend well beyond state borders.

To those of us fortunate enough to have known Eva, her friendship was just as valuable as her contribution to our industry.

Thank you, Eva. Your voice, passion and legacy will not be forgotten. 💚

Brad brings more than 20 years’ experience across sales training and we’re working with him to tailor this session specifically to the conversations turf businesses have every day.

The session will also draw on findings from the industry's latest research into the Attitudes and Usage of natural turf, helping turn that research into practical messages you can actually use with customers.

📍 The Greek Club, South Brisbane
🎟️ Sales training is FREE to all Queensland Growers - membership not required.

TURN INSIGHT INTO STRONGER SALES

Strong sales capability is an important part of building a resilient turf business.

Understanding what customers value, responding to changing market conditions and confidently communicating the benefits of natural turf can help businesses convert more enquiries, strengthen revenue and plan for future growth.

Join Turf Queensland for a free, practical sales training workshop designed for turf growers and their teams.

The session will draw on findings from the levy funded Usage, Attitudes and Contribution of Natural Turf research, which found that more than one million Australians are actively comparing turf options. While natural turf begins with a strong preference advantage, synthetic products are often more successful at converting customers during the decision making process.

This interactive workshop will help growers and their staff:

✅ Better understand customer attitudes and purchasing decisions
✅ Communicate the value and benefits of natural turf
✅ Build rapport and hold stronger sales conversations
✅ Respond confidently to questions and objections
✅ Convert more enquiries into customers
✅ Build practical skills that support business performance and resilience

Business owners, managers, salespeople and administration staff are all encouraged to attend. It is a valuable opportunity to invest in your team and give staff access to practical training and industry networking.

📅 Friday, 9 October 2026
⏰ 4:00pm–6:00pm
📍 The Greek Club, Brisbane
🎟️ Free to attend
🥂 Drinks and networking afterwards

Participants are also invited to stay for the Turf Queensland Industry Social dinner following the networking session. Dinner tickets are $130 per person, with the remaining cost subsidised by Turf Queensland.

👉 Book your free sales training session: https://www.trybooking.com/DPPIB
👉 Book for the Industry Social dinner: https://www.trybooking.com/DPDBE

This workshop supports growers and their staff to build practical business capability, respond to changing customer attitudes and strengthen the long term resilience and performance of their businesses.

The event is being delivered through the Farm Business Resilience Program and will translate findings from Usage, Attitudes and Contribution of Natural Turf (TU24004)—a strategic levy investment under the Hort Innovation Turf Fund—into practical sales skills that can be applied immediately.

We’re excited to announce that the Turf Queensland Industry Social & AGM is back!

Join us at The Greek Club on Friday, 9 October from 6pm for a great night to catch up with other growers and industry, hear about the work Turf Queensland has been doing over the past 12 months, and enjoy plenty of good food, drinks and conversation.

Tickets are $130 per person, with Turf Queensland covering the balance of the cost for the evening.

We’ve also made the decision to move our planned Sustainability Field Day to next year. There have been a lot of industry events packed into a relatively short period this year, and rather than asking growers to attend yet another event, we think it makes sense to give it the space it deserves in 2027.

For now, we’d love you to come along to the Industry Social & AGM. If you’ve been before, you’ll know it’s always a good night. If you haven’t been before, this is the year to come along.

Come and hear what we’ve been working on, have your say, eat, drink and connect with the people who make up our industry.

Friday, 9 October | 6pm
The Greek Club, Brisbane

A great example of what industry connection and collaboration is all about.

Turf Queensland President Amanda Smyth from Wild Horse Turf recently joined TurfNSW to share her journey as a first generation turf grower, her experience as a woman in the turf industry, and the path that has led her to taking on the role of President of Turf Queensland.

Opportunities like this give growers the chance to hear different perspectives, share experiences and learn from others who understand the challenges and opportunities of running a turf business.

Amanda’s story is a great reminder of the value of bringing people together and creating opportunities for connection across the wider turf industry.

Thanks to TurfNSW for the invitation and for giving Amanda the opportunity to share her story.

Help us understand our industry's water use.

We're trying to get a better understanding of how many turf farms access irrigation water through a Sunwater scheme.

If your farm is supplied by a Sunwater irrigation scheme, could you please comment below with the name of your scheme?

Your responses will help Turf Queensland better understand grower needs and identify opportunities for future support and advocacy.

Safety starts with knowing where your risks are.

This National Safety Week, it's a timely reminder that creating a safer workplace isn't just about having policies and procedures—it's about understanding where your risks are and taking action.

That's exactly what Turf360 helps you do.

Turf360 is more than a best practice manual sitting on a shelf. It's an interactive online tool that guides you through your current practices, evaluates your business against industry best practice, and generates a personalised report highlighting your risks, compliance gaps and opportunities for improvement.

And it doesn't stop at Workplace Health & Safety.

Turf360 assesses every aspect of your operation, including:
✅ Workplace Health & Safety
✅ Soil Health
✅ Irrigation & Water Management
✅ Fertiliser & Nutrition
✅ W**d, Pest & Disease Management
✅ Environmental Management
✅ Biosecurity
✅ Business Management..and much more.

Whether you're looking to improve compliance, reduce risk or simply run a better business, Turf360 gives you a clear roadmap to get there.

Because best practice isn't about ticking boxes—it's about continuously improving your business.

Did you know? 🌱

The standards within Turf360 aren't new standards—they're built on more than decades of industry knowledge.

Over 15 years ago, two research scientists, stationed out of the Redlands Research Facility, worked alongside Australian and international turf specialists to develop Australia's Best Management Practice (BMP) standards for producing high quality turf.

Those standards remain just as relevant today. What's changed is how growers can access and apply them.

Because these aren't just guidelines—they represent the collective knowledge of industry experts on what it takes to consistently produce quality turf, reduce risk and build a more resilient business.
