Earlier this week, Darren Taylor spent the day in Brisbane working with 4MBS Studios Classic FM, MBS Light and Silver Memories to evolve the Silver Memories brand. It's an extraordinary service using music, memories and connection to reduce social isolation and improve the wellbeing of older Australians, including people living with dementia.

This is one of many important Benefolk projects made possible through partnerships with philanthropic foundations that care deeply about wrapping their arms around remarkable organisations like this, helping them become stronger, extend their reach and deepen their impact.

Meet Detta Guthrie.

She’s our new Operations & Administration Coordinator.

Detta will be the glue that helps connect people, systems and processes to keep our projects, proposals and client engagements moving smoothly, ensuring well-organised delivery and allowing others to focus on delivering the work.

She will do that by drawing on her deep experience across client-facing operations, executive support and project coordination, including with a global climate not-for-profit that grew from 50 to more than 150 staff. There, she developed governance frameworks, systems and processes that improved project setup and invoice turnaround.

When she’s not at work, Detta is most likely to be restoring her mudbrick home and styling it, and getting out in nature for long walks with her partner and dogs.

Today marked a significant moment for Benefolk - and a new chapter in how funders can understand the organisations they support.

This morning we introduced two of our new AI-powered capability intelligence tools - Springboard™ and Headwinds™ - to a room of funders and sector leaders.

The idea behind them is simple: better funding decisions start with better insight.

Funders often make significant decisions with an incomplete picture of what is happening in the organisations and communities they support. Where capability is strong. Where pressure is emerging. Where resilience may be under strain. And where targeted capacity-building support could make the greatest difference.

We were joined by Cynthia Scherer from the Anthony Costa Foundation to explore how capability intelligence is already helping inform funding strategies, strengthen relationships with grantees and identify where additional support can be most useful.

For our team, it was a significant milestone. We’re bringing together AI, sector expertise and a deep understanding of organisational capability to give funders a clearer view of what sits behind the work they support.

Day one at the Philanthropy Australia Conference - what a wonderful day!

Our Benefolk stand has barely stopped. We’ve caught up with current clients, funders, Specialist Partners and old friends - and met plenty of new ones too. Lots of conversations about what purpose-driven organisations need to be stronger, healthier and more effective in the decade ahead.

And it's great to see plenty of dots appearing on our wall in response to that very question - if you're here, we'd love you to come add your thoughts.

It’s also been wonderful to see More Behind. More Ahead. come to life beyond the T-shirts and signage. There’s a real appetite for putting more behind the organisations and people doing the work - not just the outcomes we expect them to deliver.

More than a new office. A place to bring good people together to do good things.

We needed a new space because so much of our work is built on connection - bringing together our team, clients, Specialist Partners, philanthropic partners, Board members and collaborators.
T Street gives us a shared home for all of that.

A place to test ideas, have better conversations, build relationships, run training and events, and make the connections that are harder to create through a screen.

We want Basecamp to be a place where people across the purpose sector feel welcome - whether you’re a leader, funder, specialist, changemaker or simply someone who wants to make a difference.

Over the next 12 months, we’ll be filling these walls with people, ideas, conversations and plenty of good work.

This is more than where Benefolk works. It’s a place for our community to come together and make more possible.

Julia and Annette were in Perth last week, working with the Minderoo Foundation team as part of our new partnership to strengthen the organisations Minderoo supports.

Through the partnership, organisations can access highly tailored capacity and capability support when and where they need it, with one team member describing the service as a “Capability EAP”.

It’s an exciting approach to supporting organisations doing important work, and one we’re looking forward to seeing grow across Australia.

We’ll be sharing more about this partnership, along with our new AI-enabled diagnostic tools, at the upcoming Philanthropy Australia conference.
