Designing brands that inspire✨

A little Sunday reminder ✨

I love this way of re-framing the way we see success.

When the world is so chaotic, uncertain and filled with expectation, it’s nice to pause, reflect and appreciate all the small wins that come from within.

Your happiness belongs to you.

Sending love,

Tanya 🫶🏻

🚩 Why shouldn’t you use Canva for your logo?

As a brand designer, this is something I am passionate about.

Don’t get me wrong, I adore Canva as an accessible design tool that can save you time & money on simple projects.

But, trusting it for the backbone of your brand (aka. Your logo & branding), is a risk.

Here’s why…

🚩 It’s not exclusively yours
Designs created in Canva cannot be exclusively trademarked as your own design, meaning they aren’t yours. Stock photos, graphics or templates created in Canva are owned by Canva or their contributors. Unless you have created a unique Canva design using solely basic shapes, lines or fonts, you won’t own the rights to your logo.

But, this brings me to my second point…

🚩 It’s not unique
If you are using templates or basic shapes, lines and fonts in Canva to create your logo, chances are thousands of people are doing the same. I don’t know about you, but I want my logo to stand out from the crowd, not be a replica of hundreds of others. Your logo should be unique, designed strategically to represent your business and resonate with your audience. A cookie cutter won’t cut it.

🚩 It’s difficult to scale
Logos created in Canva are often created in pixel-based formats (image files), rather than in a vector. This means that when you take that lovely logo from Canva and go to your local printer or web designer to have it added to other business assets, it will appear pixelated or blurry. This stops you from being to enlarge your logo to the require size or use it in different formats. Super unhelpful!

If you are reading this and thinking “oh crap, that’s me”. Don’t stress! You are not alone and there is no judgement here.

If you are ready to level-up your logo with a professional design that gives you ownership, flexibility AND stands out, well, hello 👋🏻 you are in the right place.

I have a neatly packaged (and very welcoming) ‘brand bar’ of three logo offers designed to meet you at your stage and budget in business.

Check it out on my website, or get in touch to discuss which option would be the right fit for you.

I feel very fortunate that I get to work with some hard-working, creative and talented business owners and Zoe from Coast to Coast Grazed is no exception.

When Zoe reached out to have her logo done for her grazing box business, her brief excited me (after I was done drooling over her delicious creations 🤤).

She was looking for...

🌸 Coastal, floral, delicate, feminine aesthetic
🌸 Logo formats suitable for socials, stickers & packaging items
🌸 Professional branding suite

This is what we come up with and (call me biased, but) I am still obsessed

This one is a throwback, but I couldn’t resist sharing it (as we know, tea-obsessed girlie over here 🙋🏼‍♀️🍵)…

POV: You are asked to design branding for a start-up tea brand *screaming with excitement*

What’s required?

👉 Logo (in different formats)

👉 Branding suite (colours, fonts, icons)

👉 Packaging (simple pouches)

What’s the vibe?

✨ Playful & colourful

✨ Versatile across collateral

✨ Uniquely delicious (of course)

What do you think? Would this catch your eye on a shelf?

A love letter to all the incredible women in my life…

✨ the women I am privileged to work with
✨ the women that I am blessed call friends
✨ the women that raised me, empowered me, supported me and paved the way…

I am forever in awe of everything these women achieve and contribute.

Please know that…

🌸 your efforts never go unnoticed.
🌸 your time is never taken for granted.
🌸 your support is always appreciated (and returned)

What an honour it is to be surrounded by the type of people that stand up for what they believe in, who make a difference and who never fail to inspire.

This is for you.

You’ve got this! 👊🏻

Happy International Women’s Day 💜

This is an interesting one... 👀

Often people treat fonts as a bit of an afterthought.

And look, I do agree that what is being said is equally as important as how you say it.

But, when it comes to the written word, the font is like the ‘tone’ in which you communicate.

Just like you wouldn’t ‘scream’ a question at a client, you also don’t want to portray the wrong impression through the font you choose for your brand.

The typography should match the tone and personality of your business.

Do you see the difference?

One is pleasant. One is a threat.

The message behind this project is close to my heart 🧡

Having worked in corporate environments, creative agencies, small businesses and large organisations, I truly understand the importance of ‘workplace wellness’.

It goes beyond the gimmicky initiatives, beyond the ‘tick-box’ exercises, beyond the obligatory ‘how are you?’ and straight to the core... the importance of workplaces truly valuing their employees’ wellbeing and cultivating a culture that reflects that.

When Molly reached out to have a logo created for her values-focussed business, I knew that the branding needed to connect.

✨ Warm, earthy and approachable, but also professional (we needed to speak to the corporate sphere that needed her services most)
✨ Something that captured her friendly and caring personality
✨ A branding system that would work cohesively across a variety of digital collateral

What we came up with was a bold, warm, inviting colour palette that tapped into compassion. And a professional branding suite that still attracted her target market.

Here’s the outcome...

I am truly stepping into this energy this year...

After sitting in the 'fear' of showing up online and sharing some 'behind the scenes', I am finally opening that door.

One foot in front of the other, I am excited to share more about who I am and the inspiring projects I get to work on.

What 'old way' are you holding on to, that you think it's time to let go of?

Open that new door with me.

Having someone trust you enough to take their beautiful, established, successful business and build a website to accompany, support and facilitate it, is an honour 🥹

When Meg from approached me to have her website built, her request was simple...

✨ A system that enables clients to find her, contact her and learn more about her
✨ A clean, modern aesthetic in her existing branding
✨ A simple one-page website that is easy to navigate

She has a thriving business in her local area and a loyal client base, but she was ready to take her branding to the next level with a functional platform that made her accessible.

Here is a preview of the outcome...

Have you ever heard a designer yap on about a 'brief' and just looked at them in a state of confusion?

You are not alone.

It is common for people to "just want a logo" or "just need branding" but not be too sure about what that looks like.

When designers ask for (or ideally, help you build) a brief, it's our way of making sure we understand you & your business so we can create the branding of your dreams that truly represents that.

So, let's get down to it... what exactly is a 'brief'?

Essentially, a brief provides context and outlines what you are looking to achieve with your design.

🫣*insert panic* (yes, I can feel your panic already)

Don't worry, a brief doesn't mean you need to know what style, colours, fonts and exact layout you are after. All you need to know is a bit about you & your business.

A good designer will be able to draw the right information out of you to build a good brief.

This can include things like...
👉 overview of your business
👉 goals & objectives
👉 target audience (who do you serve?)
👉 project deliverables and objectives (do you want a logo? do you want a template?)

These are all great starting points to help provide direction.

To make this process nice and simple, I have created a 'let's get to know you' form on my website for new clients.

This prompts you through a series of questions, which once submitted comes to me in a nice little package known as a 'brief'. Yes - it's really that simple!

You can even have a little sticky beak if you would like to preview the types of questions that I ask 👀

Comment 'BRIEF' below to get access to the link.

Or, we can simply book a time to chat about it.

✨NEW BLOG ALERT ✨

We have been getting A LOT of questions about files types lately...

Which files do I use?
What file types do I need?
What does this mean?
And so on...

We hear you... SO, let's fix that!

We are ALL about simplifying the design jargon to make your experience as easy-to-understand and enjoyable as possible!

To make your life easy, we have compiled a list of the most common file types with a quick easy-to-understand explanation of what they mean AND what they are for.
