We are proud to celebrate another successful master’s thesis defence at VACD! 🎓💜

Admir Jusić successfully defended his thesis, “The Visual Patterns of Urban Spaces: A Study of Society Through Photographic Exploration,” exploring how urban visual patterns reflect cultural values, spatial authority, and social meaning.

Through a comparative photographic study of Barcelona and Marrakech, based on an archive of 394 images, Admir examined how shape, colour, texture, and material shape the visual identity of urban spaces. His research also highlights photography as more than artistic documentation, demonstrating its potential as a powerful tool for sociological inquiry. 🏙️📷

The thesis was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Muhammed Yasir Göz, MA, with Asst. Prof. Nejira Mulahmetović, MA, and Assoc. Prof. Roman Sulejmanpašić, MFA, serving on the committee.

How is AI changing the way we understand artistic authorship? 🎨

Emina Memija explored this question in her master’s thesis, “Generative Performance: Authorship in Human-AI Collaborative Art,” examining how generative AI is reshaping artistic creation.

Her practice-based research presents an interactive installation powered by Stable Diffusion and trained exclusively on 500 original 3D artworks created by a single artist. Based on a study with 30 participants, the research positions the artist as the primary author while exploring AI as a computational mediator and proposes a model of distributed authorship between the artist, audience, and AI.

The defence committee included Asst. Prof. Nejira Mulahmetović, MA, and Assoc. Prof. Roman Sulejmanpašić, MFA, while Assoc. Prof. Muhammed Yasir Göz, MA, served as thesis supervisor.

Yet another creative summer at IUS! ☀️🎨

Throughout July and August, students from Türkiye joined the IUS English Language Summer School and took part in a series of workshops led, among others, by our VACD staff. From Photoshop and illustration to motion design and other creative practices, they had the opportunity to explore new skills, experiment with different techniques, and bring their ideas to life. 💻✏️✨

It was a summer filled with learning, creativity, and plenty of inspiration! 💜

👏🏻👏🏻 We are proud to congratulate Ivan Stefanjuk on the successful defence of his Master’s thesis, “Perceiving Beauty in Digital Destruction and Reconstruction: Audience Response to an Interactive Glitch-Based Sculpture in Contemporary Art,” held on August 10, 2026, at the International University of Sarajevo! 🎓✨

Under the mentorship of Asst. Prof. Nejira Mulahmetović, MA, Ivan’s research brings together art, design, technology, and audience experience, exploring how our perception of beauty changes when a classical form is digitally fragmented and reconstructed through an interactive glitch-based installation. 💻 The project combines TouchDesigner and Arduino technology with practice-based research, turning the artwork itself into an instrument of investigation.

The Committee, additionally consisting of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emir Hambo, and Assoc. Prof. Roman Sulejmanpašić, MFA, particularly highlighted the originality, complexity, and interdisciplinary character of the thesis and practical project.

🥉We are proud to celebrate the success of our VACD student Ada Avdagić, who won the bronze medal for Bosnia and Herzegovina in taekwondo at the 20th Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy! 🇧🇦

Competing in the -57 kg category, Ada secured her place in the semifinals with a 2:1 victory over Spain’s Carla Sesar Vila. After a hard-fought semifinal against Türkiye’s Hatice Kübra İlgun, Ada finished the competition with a well-deserved bronze medal.

With this achievement, Ada brought the first medal for Bosnia and Herzegovina at this year’s Mediterranean Games, adding another remarkable result to her international sporting career.

Congratulations once again, Ada! We are incredibly proud to have you as part of our VACD family! 💜

🖼️ On July 23, 2026, our Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), in collaboration with the Museum of Sarajevo (Muzej Sarajeva), officially opened “Sevdah in Type,” an interdisciplinary student exhibition hosted at the historic Svrzo’s House.

Developed through the collaboration of the VACD and ELIT/ELT programs, the exhibition displays how students transformed the poetry and emotional depth of Sevdalinka into contemporary typographic works through research, visual storytelling, and design. 🎶

The project was organized, coordinated, and mentored by Asst. Prof. Nejira Mulahmetović, MA (VACD & MAC), Dr. Damir Kahrić (ELIT & ELT), and Asst. Dino Šahović (VACD). 👏

📅 The exhibition remains open to visitors until July 29, 2026, inviting everyone to discover how cultural heritage can be reimagined through contemporary typography and interdisciplinary collaboration.

🎓✨ We are proud to present the VACD Graduation Projects exhibition 2026, showcasing the final projects of students from our Visual Arts and Visual Communications Design program. �
Opened yesterday, on June 19, 2026 at the IUS Art Gallery, the exhibition celebrates the creativity, dedication, and achievements of our graduating students. Through a diverse range of projects, visitors can explore innovative ideas, unique perspectives, and the impressive skills developed throughout their academic journey.

From graphic design, illustration, and animation, to UX/UI design, concept design, video production, and visual arts, the exhibition reflects the talent and hard work of a new generation of creative professionals.

👏 We are incredibly proud of our graduates and excited to share their work with the wider community.

On June 16, 2026, Europe House Sarajevo hosted "Traces of the Past, Strength of the Future" ("Tragovi prošlosti, snaga budućnosti"), marking the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict.

Organized by the Foundation of Local Democracy in partnership with the Association “Sumejja – Strong Herzegovinian Women” and the Association of Camp Detainees Kozarac, the event brought together more than 40 participants from across Bosnia and Herzegovina to honor survivors of conflict-related sexual violence and encourage dialogue on the role of youth in building a society based on truth, empathy, and solidarity.

The program concluded with an exhibition of artworks created by young people from Sarajevo, Mostar, and Kozarac through educational and creative workshops exploring the impact of transgenerational trauma.

🏆 Among the awarded participants were our VACD students Esma Hadžić, Merjem Bešić, and Amina Špago, who developed their projects within the VA416 Design Studio II course, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Emir Hambo.

Congratulations to our students on this meaningful achievement and for using design and visual communication to promote awareness, empathy, and social change. 👏
