A homeowner searches for an electrician nearby.
Before they even reach the list of websites, Google’s AI Overview answers their question.
One business gets mentioned.
The others don’t.
That moment is quietly changing how service businesses get discovered.
It’s no longer just about having the best-looking website, the most reviews or the biggest advertising budget.
AI driven search is increasingly looking across the web for consistent, credible, and understandable signals customer reviews, service pages, business listings, citations and other sources that help confirm what a business actually does and where it operates.
The shift is significant.
In the past, being discoverable meant ranking on page one.
Now, it also means being understood.
The businesses that appear in AI generated answers often have one thing in common:
Their online presence is clear, specific, consistent and easy for both people and search systems to understand.
If you run a service-based business, it’s worth asking:
How clearly does your business explain who you are, what you do, and where you do it not just to potential customers but to the AI systems increasingly helping them make decisions?
I’d be interested to hear how others see this shift.
