What did the Prophet (peace be upon him) say about eating sanda?
Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I and Khalid ibn Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) went with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to the house of Umm al-Mu'minin Hazrat Maimuna (may Allah be pleased with her). Then roasted dabb or sanda was brought. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was reaching out towards it. One of the women present in the house of Maimuna (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "Tell the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) what he is going to eat."
They said, "O Messenger of Allah, this is dabb or sanda."
Hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) raised his hand.
I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Is this forbidden?"
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "No." But since it (the custom of eating) was not in our area, I disliked it or found it unpalatable.
Then Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) pulled out the container and ate the meat of the sanda in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)
That is, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not eat the sanda himself because he found it unpalatable, but he did not forbid the companions from eating it either. The companions ate it in front of him.
