In 2024, the number of monthly active users (MAUs) across social media platforms surpassed 5.17 billion, accounting for approximately 63.7% of the global population. The leading platforms include Facebook with over 3 billion MAUs, YouTube (2.5 billion), Instagram (2 billion), WhatsApp (2 billion), and TikTok (1.58 billion). Growth in social media usage is now driven largely by increasing internet and smartphone accessibility, particularly in developing regions.
Globally, the average social media user interacts with about 6.7 platforms per month, reflecting the diversity of services available. Time spent on these platforms averages 2 hours and 20 minutes daily. While the growth rate of new users has slowed compared to the past decade, social media continues to be a dominant force, with 94.9% of internet users actively engaged.
