Google has announced that it will remove four attribution models (first click, linear, time decay, and position-based) from Google Ads and Google Analytics starting May 2023. This decision has been made based on the low adoption rates of these models and the preference for the data-driven attribution model, which uses machine learning to assign credit to each touchpoint along the customer journey. Google claims that switching to this model typically results in a 6% increase in conversions for advertisers .

However, some advertisers are concerned about losing valuable insights and having less control over how attribution is calculated. They argue that the data-driven attribution model may be biased towards Google Ads campaigns and may not account for other channels or factors that influence conversions. They also point out that the data-driven attribution formula is different for each advertiser and not visible, making it harder to understand and optimize .

Advertisers who are currently using the four deprecated models will have to either switch to the data-driven attribution model or the last click model, which will remain available. Google recommends using the data-driven attribution model for optimization and automated bidding, as it is the most used model for conversions. How it works;
Let’s walk through an example. You can start by going to any LinkedIn Skill Page, such as Social Media.

Right now, there is post to a Collaborative article on how to measure the ROI of influencer marketing campaigns. Clicking on that post opens up the actual article, How do you measure ROI of your influencer marketing campaigns?

You’ll see a note under the headline: “Help unlock community knowledge with us. Add your insights into this AI-powered collaborative article.” Along with LinkedIn’s explainer about Collaborative articles.

Scroll down in this article and you’ll see multiple prompts to “Share an example”.

When you click to share an example, a field will appear that gives you some prompts to get you started (“One thing I’ve found…”; “Actually I disagree with…”; “An example I’ve seen…”).

The minimum response is 125 characters. The maximum response is 750 characters.
