বিএনপির ভারপ্রাপ্ত চেয়ারম্যান তারেক রহমান বলেছেন, গণ–অভ্যুত্থানের মাধ্যমে গঠিত অন্তর্বর্তী সরকার জনগণেরই সরকার এবং তাদের সফলতা অপরিহার্য। তবে সরকারের নিজস্ব ব্যর্থতার কারণ হয়ে দাঁড়ানো থেকে সতর্ক থাকারও আহ্বান জানান তিনি।

**India Opens All Gates of Farakka Barrage: Local people and the government grow worried over the possibility of new flood in Bangladesh .

Due to Bihar and Jharkhand flood situation the government of India has opened all the Farakka gates as well. August 26 also witnesses the opening of all the 109 gates of the dam and a relatively big amount of water was let through to the downstream.

M. Anwar Hossain, director of the river research organization Riverine People has been concerned, calling the situation as dangerous to Bangladesh. He said that flooding took place in several districts by releasing water of Farakka Barrage such as Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Pabna, Sirajganj, Kushtia, Rajbari and Manikganj.

As stated by Hossain, the situation may worsen when the water levels rise rapidly in a short span of time due to the water released from Farakka leading to disastrous floods pan area of country. He has called for prevention concerning flood prone areas by notifying the competent authorities to act appropriately and prevent floods.

বিহার ও ঝাড়খণ্ডে বন্যা পরিস্থিতির কারণে ভারত সরকার ফারাক্কা ব্যারেজের সব গেট খুলে দিয়েছে। ২৬ আগস্ট বাঁধের ১০৯টি গেটই খুলে দেওয়া হয় এবং বিপুল পরিমাণ পানি ভাটিতে ছেড়ে দেওয়া হয়।

নদী গবেষণা সংস্থা রিভারাইন পিপলের পরিচালক এম আনোয়ার হোসেন উদ্বেগ প্রকাশ করে বলেছেন যে, এই পরিস্থিতি বাংলাদেশের জন্য অত্যন্ত বিপজ্জনক। তিনি উল্লেখ করেন যে, ফারাক্কা ব্যারেজ থেকে পানি ছেড়ে দেওয়ার ফলে রাজশাহী, চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ, পাবনা, সিরাজগঞ্জ, কুষ্টিয়া, রাজবাড়ী এবং মানিকগঞ্জসহ বিভিন্ন জেলায় বন্যা দেখা দিয়েছে।

হোসেনের মতে, ফারাক্কা থেকে ছেড়ে দেওয়া পানির কারণে দেশের বিস্তীর্ণ অঞ্চলে দ্রুত পানির স্তর বৃদ্ধি পাবে, যা মারাত্মক বন্যার পরিস্থিতি সৃষ্টি করতে পারে। তিনি সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষকে যথাযথভাবে পদক্ষেপ নিতে এবং বন্যাপ্রবণ এলাকায় বন্যা প্রতিরোধে দ্রুত ব্যবস্থা নেওয়ার আহ্বান জানিয়েছেন।

It was a whole citizen’s rebuttal to say that any real change in Bangladesh in the future cannot be limited to just the quota reform. They said that three things, Education, health, are basic needs that should be accorded or provided for every citizen. This is a call for the extraordinary people of the country especially those in parliament to set the pace.

1. **Mandatory Education in Public Institutions:** People are appealing that if these “extraordinary” representatives have children then they should attend government schools in Bangladesh at least up to high school level. This, they say, will be the only way that these schools will get the attention and resources required in their development.

2. **Healthcare in Local Hospitals:** Similarly regarding the proposed law to make lawmakers legally mandatory to get treated in the public hospitals of Bangladesh. The question is raised: if a given country has sophisticated hospitals than they have the capability of treating any patient, why does these extraordinary patients travel to Singapore or London for treatment being provided by government expense?

The demand consists of the fact that all MPs should undergo treatment within the government hospitals in the country. They say this is the only way that the average citizen of the country can be able to get quality services in education and health.

People are wanting politicians to be compelled to take their treatments in the local government hospitals and the politicians’ children to be forced to attend the government’s primary schools. Also overseas education is allowed but the basic education should be provided in the Bangladesh.

The statement reflects a deep concern: “If you do not like your country, how can you like its people?” The public is thus calling on their national parliament to pass this law hoping that it will bring about a positive change in the quality of education ans health care in the country.

**India Strike Everywhere after Gang R**e of Female Doctor in Kolkata; protests all over the Country for Women’s Protection.***

In a strike that has signified a nationwide protest, doctors all over India have gone on strike, raising the pitch of their demand for justice after one female doctor was r***d and killed in Kolkata, West Bengal. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has used the incident to term it a crime of barbaric scale calling for better protection of women across the country. Employing over a million people, the healthcare employees all across the United States based in hospitals and clinics refused to treat non-emergency cases to take the survey, greatly influencing the healthcare system. However, this was not to mean that casualties and emergency services were on strike: they were on duty offering life-saving services. The events of that evening set off anger and demand for safety for women, protests rose in the past days. It became worse when a group of people attacked the hospital where the incident took place resulting to an increase in the tension level. In the statement by the IMA, the nation was called on to support the organisations ‘fight for justice’ as it looks to draw attention to the safety of doctors and women alike. The longtime sore of doctors suffering from violence in India was also captured by Dr. R. V. Asokan, the president of the IMA. But he said this incident is “qualitatively different,” pointing to it having happened in a medical college in a big city; it shows that the lack of security that healthcare workers report across the country isn’t a myth. In order to stem the flow of patients, some government hospitals have prevented elective operations indefinitely, which seems to demonstrate the gravity of the problem. At the same time, tens of thousands of women took to the streets in West Bengal to march in the freedom called “Reclaim the Night”. While most of the protests have not turned violent, things escalated when some unknown persons stormed the RG Kar Hospital, the scene of the crime, assaulted and ransacked the emergency ward and fought with the police. Security agencies have apprehended a least twenty-five persons in connection with the violence.

Interim Government to Try July Massacre in International Crimes Tribunal: Legal Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul

Dhaka, 14 August 2024 – The interim government has announced its decision to prosecute those responsible for the July massacre under the International Crimes Tribunal, according to Dr. Asif Nazrul, the Adviser for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.

During a press conference at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Dr. Nazrul disclosed that multiple cases have already been filed regarding the mass killings and shootings that occurred during the quota reform movement.

“Various student organizations and human rights groups have called for this incident to be treated as a crime against humanity. After thorough review, we have concluded that it is indeed possible to try those responsible for the July massacre under the International Crimes Tribunal,” explained Dr. Nazrul.

He also mentioned that a United Nations investigation team would be involved in the process to ensure a fair and comprehensive inquiry. Dr. Nazrul emphasized that no one involved in the killings, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, will be exempt from prosecution.

বুধবার সচিবালয়ে এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে ড. নজরুল জানান যে কোটা সংস্কার আন্দোলনের সময় সংঘটিত গণহত্যা ও গুলিবর্ষণের ঘটনায় একাধিক মামলা ইতোমধ্যে দায়ের করা হয়েছে।

“বিভিন্ন ছাত্র সংগঠন এবং মানবাধিকার সংগঠন এই ঘটনাকে মানবতাবিরোধী অপরাধ হিসাবে বিবেচনা করার দাবি জানিয়েছে। পুঙ্খানুপুঙ্খ পর্যালোচনার পর আমরা সিদ্ধান্তে পৌঁছেছি যে, জুলাই গণহত্যার জন্য দায়ী ব্যক্তিদের আন্তর্জাতিক অপরাধ ট্রাইব্যুনালে বিচার করা সম্ভব,” ড. নজরুল ব্যাখ্যা করেন।

Former Adviser Salman F Rahman and Ex-Law Minister Anisul Huq Arrested in Dhaka

**Dhaka, 13 August 2024** – Salman F Rahman, former adviser to the recently ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and former Law Minister Anisul Huq have been apprehended by police in the Sadarghat area of the capital while allegedly attempting to escape, according to official sources.

The arrests were made in connection with a case filed at the New Market Police Station, DMP Commissioner Mainul Hasan told *Knock For News* earlier today. Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement officials detained the pair as they reportedly tried to flee Dhaka using waterways.

Following their arrest, both Rahman and Huq were taken to the DMP headquarters for further interrogation.

Police sources reveal that the arrests stem from a violent clash on 16 July 2024 in front of Dhaka College, where two people were killed during a student protest advocating for quota reform. Among the deceased was Shobuj Ali, a Dhaka College student who, according to the Chhatra League, was one of their members. Two murder cases were subsequently filed at New Market Police Station, with Rahman and Huq allegedly implicated as key instigators in the violence.

Salman F Rahman is a well-known figure in Bangladesh's business community. He co-founded and serves as vice chairman of Beximco Group, one of the country’s largest conglomerates, and also chairs IFIC Bank, a major private commercial bank. Rahman held the role of private industry and investment adviser to Sheikh Hasina and was previously elected as the Member of Parliament for Dhaka-1 constituency under the Awami League.

Anisul Huq, who served as the Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs from 2014 to 2024, was elected as the Member of Parliament for Brahmanbaria-4. Before his political career, Huq was a senior advocate at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.

The arrests mark a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the Dhaka College clash, with authorities continuing their probe into the incident.

পুলিশ সূত্রে জানা যায়, ১৬ জুলাই ২০২৪ তারিখে ঢাকা কলেজের সামনে কোটা সংস্কারের দাবিতে ছাত্রদের বিক্ষোভ চলাকালে সংঘর্ষে দুইজন নিহত হন। নিহতদের মধ্যে শোভুজ আলী নামের একজন ঢাকা কলেজের ছাত্র ছিলেন, যাকে ছাত্রলীগের কর্মী হিসেবে দাবি করা হয়েছিল। এ ঘটনার পর নিউমার্কেট থানায় দুটি হত্যা মামলা দায়ের করা হয় এবং ওই সংঘর্ষের প্রধান উসকানিদাতা হিসেবে রহমান ও হককে জড়িত থাকার অভিযোগে গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে।

সালমান এফ রহমান বাংলাদেশের ব্যবসায়িক খাতে সুপরিচিত ব্যক্তিত্ব। তিনি দেশের অন্যতম বৃহৎ কংগ্লোমারেট বেক্সিমকো গ্রুপের সহ-প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও ভাইস চেয়ারম্যান এবং আইএফআইসি ব্যাংকের চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করছেন। রাজনৈতিক অঙ্গনে, তিনি শেখ হাসিনার ব্যক্তিগত শিল্প ও বিনিয়োগ উপদেষ্টা হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন এবং আওয়ামী লীগের প্রার্থী হিসেবে ঢাকা-১ আসন থেকে সংসদ সদস্য নির্বাচিত হন।

আনিসুল হক ২০১৪ থেকে ২০২৪ সাল পর্যন্ত আইন, বিচার ও সংসদ বিষয়ক মন্ত্রী ছিলেন এবং ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া-৪ আসন থেকে সংসদ সদস্য নির্বাচিত হন। রাজনীতিতে আসার আগে, হক বাংলাদেশের সুপ্রিম কোর্টের একজন সিনিয়র অ্যাডভোকেট ছিলেন।

অসহযোগ আন্দোলন সফল করতে ছাত্র-জনতার প্রতি বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনের ১৫টি জরুরি নির্দেশনা দিয়েছেন। শনিবার (৩ জুলাই) বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনের সমন্বয়ক আসিফ মাহমুদ এ নির্দেশনার ঘোষণা দেন।

১. কেউ কোনো ধরনের ট্যাক্স বা খাজনা দেবেন না।

২. বিদ্যুৎ বিল, গ্যাস বিল, পানির বিলসহ কোনো ধরনের বিল পরিশোধ করবেন না।
৩. সব ধরনের সরকারি-বেসরকারি প্রতিষ্ঠান, অফিস আদালত ও কল কারখানা বন্ধ থাকবে। আপনারা কেউ অফিসে যাবেন না, মাস শেষে বেতন তুলবেন।

৪. শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানসমূহের কার্যক্রম বন্ধ থাকবে।

৫. প্রবাসীরা ব্যাংকিং চ্যানেলে কোনো ধরনের রেমিট্যান্স দেশে পাঠাবেন না।
৬. সব ধরণের সরকারি সভা, সেমিনার, আয়োজন বর্জন করবেন।

৭. বন্দরের কর্মীরা কাজে যোগ দেবেন না। কোনো ধরনের পণ্য খালাস করবেন না।

৮. দেশের কোন কলকারখানা চলবে না, গার্মেন্টসকর্মী ভাই বোনেরা কাজে যাবেন না।

৯. গণপরিবহন বন্ধ থাকবে, শ্রমিকরা কেউ কাজে যাবেন না।

১০. জরুরি ব্যক্তিগত লেনদেনের জন্য প্রতি সপ্তাহের রোববার ব্যাংকগুলো খোলা থাকবে।

১১. পুলিশ সদস্যরা রুটিন ডিউটি ব্যতিত কোনো ধরনের প্রটোকল ডিউটি, রায়ট ডিউটি ও প্রটেস্ট ডিউটিতে যাবেন না। শুধু মাত্র থানা পুলিশ নিয়মিত থানার রুটিন ওয়ার্ক করবে।

১২. দেশ থেকে যেন একটি টাকাও পাচার না হয়, সব অফশোর ট্রানজেকশন বন্ধ থাকবে।

১৩. বিজিবি ও নৌবাহিনী ব্যতিত অন্যান্য বাহিনী ক্যান্টনমেন্টের বাইরে ডিউটি পালন করবে না। বিজিবি ও নৌবাহিনী ব্যারাক ও কোস্টাল এলাকায় থাকবে।

১৪. আমলারা সচিবালয়ে যাবেন না, ডিসি বা উপজেলা কর্মকর্তারা নিজ নিজ কার্যালয়ে যাবেন না।

১৫. বিলাস দ্রব্যের দোকান, শো রুম, বিপণি-বিতান, হোটেল, মোটেল, রেস্টুরেন্ট বন্ধ থাকবে।

তবে হাসপাতাল, ফার্মেসি, জরুরি পরিবহন সেবা যেমন-ওষুধ ও চিকিৎসা সরঞ্জাম পরিবহন, অ্যাম্বুলেন্স সেবা, ফায়ার সার্ভিস, গণমাধ্যম, নিত্য প্রয়োজনীয় দ্রব্য পরিবহন, জরুরি ইন্টারনেট সেবা, জরুরি ত্রাণ সহায়তা এবং এই খাতে কর্তব্যরত কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারী পরিবহন সেবা চালু থাকবে।

এছাড়া নিত্য প্রয়োজনীয় দ্রব্যের দোকানপাট বেলা ১১-১টা পর্যন্ত খোলা থাকবে।
