Most business owners focus heavily on generating leads.

“What happens after the phone rings?”

Because in local services, speed matters more than most people realize.

And here’s the hidden problem:

I lowered my target CPA… and my campaign almost died.

Here’s the raw data 👇
May 4 (Before change)
• 188 impressions
• 21 clicks
• 3 conversions
• 5 phone calls
• Avg CPC: $14.27

Then I made what most people would call a “smart move” 👇
Lowered tCPA from $87 → $65

May 5 (After lowering tCPA)
• 366 impressions
• 11 clicks
• 1 conversion
• 1 phone call
• Avg CPC: $12.97

At first glance, CPC dropped — looks good, right?

But the truth:
Traffic quality dropped.
Intent dropped.
Calls dropped.
Conversions dropped.

So today, I pushed it back up → $80 tCPA

And almost immediately, the campaign started stabilizing again:
• 25 impressions
• 3 clicks
• 1 call
• 1 conversion
Still early, and call tracking isn’t perfect yet -- but direction is clear.

Here’s the part most advertisers don’t understand:

Lower CPA targets don’t make Google “work smarter.”
They make it safer.

And in high-intent, emergency-driven businesses (like towing),
“Safe traffic” is usually low-intent traffic.

What I’m seeing over and over again:
You don’t scale by squeezing cost.
You scale by allowing the system to find real buyers — even if they cost more.

If your campaign volume suddenly drops after “optimizing”…
There’s a good chance you didn’t improve it.
You just restricted it.
