Shopify has recently updated how Sessions are measured in Shopify Analytics.

Starting September 21, 2026, Shopify began improving session measurement to provide a cleaner view of real shopper activity.

Here’s what Shopify store owners should know:

✅ Sessions are now measured based on continued customer activity
✅ Identified bot sessions are filtered from session-based reports by default
✅ Some valid customer activity without a traditional pageview can now be counted
✅ Session-based metrics such as Conversion Rate, Add-to-Cart Rate, Checkout Conversion Rate, Bounce Rate, and Pageviews per Session may look different
✅ Your orders, sales, and customer counts are not changed by this update

📊 Important: If you compare your Shopify Analytics before and after September 21, don't assume a change in Sessions or Conversion Rate automatically means your store performance changed.

Shopify recommends treating the updated reporting as a new baseline when analyzing session-based metrics.
