"Nobody is finding us on Google."

I've heard that sentence from many local business owners.

The surprising part?

Most of them had a better service than the businesses ranking above them.

The issue wasn't quality.

The issue was visibility.

Google needs clear signals.

Where are you located?

What services do you offer?

Which areas do you serve?

Can people trust your business?

When those answers aren't clear, Google often chooses someone else.

The good news is that improving local visibility doesn't always require paid ads.

Small improvements to your Google Business Profile, website content, reviews, and local SEO can make a bigger difference than many people expect.

If your business relies on local customers, take a look at how easy it is for Google to understand your business today.

What's been your biggest challenge with Google rankings lately?

One thing I’ve noticed lately…

A lot of business websites are written for search engines.
but not for actual people.

That used to work.

Now it’s becoming a problem.

People search differently today.

Instead of typing:
“best dentist London”

They ask:
“Who’s the best affordable dentist near me for braces?”

Google, ChatGPT, and AI search tools are trying to give direct answers instantly.

This is why AEO is becoming important.

AEO stands for Answer Engine Optimization.

It means creating content that clearly answers real questions people ask online.

Not robotic SEO articles.
Not keyword stuffing.

Just useful answers written in a simple way.

I’ve seen local business websites improve visibility just by:
• answering customer questions properly
• simplifying content
• adding local context
• improving page structure

Sometimes ranking problems are not technical.

Sometimes the website simply doesn’t feel helpful enough.

That’s a hard truth many SEO people avoid talking about.

Search engines are getting smarter at understanding usefulness.

And honestly, I think that’s a good thing.

I’ve been sharing more of these insights on my portfolio recently:

Most business owners still think SEO is only about Google rankings.

But search is changing faster than ever.

Now people are asking questions directly to ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot instead of clicking websites first.

That’s where GEO comes in.

Traditional SEO helps you rank on Google.
GEO helps your brand appear inside AI-generated answers.

The real question is not:
“GEO or SEO?”

The smarter question is:
“Are you visible everywhere your customers are searching?”

I created this comparison to show where search is heading in 2026 and why businesses can’t ignore AI visibility anymore.

Which side do you think will dominate the future of search?

I’ve been deeply studying how websites get featured inside AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot.

And honestly…
Traditional SEO alone is not enough anymore.

AI systems prefer content that gives direct answers, clear structure, and complete topic coverage.

The websites winning right now are doing a few things really well:
✔ Answering questions clearly
✔ Using structured content
✔ Building topical authority
✔ Showing real expertise and trust
✔ Creating content that humans actually enjoy reading

Search is changing fast.

The future belongs to brands that become trusted sources for both people and AI.

A lot of business owners think adding “near me” to a page helps rankings.
Usually, it doesn’t.

I’ve tested this on local websites before.
The pages had keywords everywhere.

But Google still ignored them for local searches.
What changed things wasn’t stuffing keywords.
It was making the business feel genuinely local online.

Simple things helped:
💠Clear service areas
💠Updated Google Business Profile
💠Local landing pages with real context
💠Consistent contact info across platforms
💠Reviews from actual local customers

That’s when rankings started moving.
Google wants confidence.

It wants to know:
“Is this business actually relevant to people nearby?”

Don’t focus only on keywords.
Most websites never answer that clearly.
If your site isn’t ranking for local searches yet,
don’t focus only on keywords.
Focus on local trust signals too.
That made the biggest difference for me.

Most people think they need more pages to rank locally.

That’s usually not the problem.

I’ve seen websites with 50+ city pages…
and none of them rank.

Why?

Because every page says the same thing.

Just the city name changed.

I used to do that too.
Thought I was being “efficient.”

But Google doesn’t reward shortcuts like that.

What worked for me instead was simple:

Make each page slightly different in a meaningful way.

Talk about:

💠Local problems
💠Local audience behavior
💠Real examples from that area

You don’t need 100% unique content.

You need real relevance.

If your pages feel copy-pasted,
Google feels it too.

Maybe instead of adding more pages…
It’s time to fix the ones you already have.

Have you faced this issue before?

If your website isn’t ranking…

It might not be your SEO strategy.
It might be this one missing piece 👇

I once worked on a local site that looked perfect.
Content was good. Pages were optimized.

But rankings? Flat.

Then I noticed something simple—
There was no schema markup.

Basically, Google had to “guess” what the business was about.

We added LocalBusiness schema:
Name, address, services, hours.

We added the LocalBusiness schema:
Nothing complex.
But after that, things started improving slowly.
That’s when it clicked for me—

SEO isn’t just about optimizing content.
It’s about helping Google understand your content.
Schema does exactly that.

If you’re struggling to rank, don’t just add more content.
Ask yourself:
“Have I made things clear enough for search engines?”
Have you ever tried schema on your site?
