নববর্ষ উৎসব আর হিন্দু ধর্মের কোন যোগ নেই। নববর্ষ উৎসব আর সাল গণনা একসাথে মেলাবারও দরকার নেই। এই অঞ্চলে নববর্ষের উৎসবের ধারণাটাই এসেছে পারস্যের নওরোজ (ইরানি নববর্ষ) থেকে। যেটা সেই জরাথুস্ত্রের আমল থেকে সেখানে প্রচলিত ছিল সৌর ভারনাল ইক্যুইনক্সের সময় যেটা বসন্তের শুরু।

বসন্ত মানেই প্রাণের শুরু, শীতের খরা ও দুর্ভিক্ষের পর সারা বছরের খাদ্য সংগ্রহের শুরু - সেটা কীট পতঙ্গ ও প্রাণীজগতই হোক বা মানুষের খাবারের উদ্ভিদ বা কৃষি। যেহেতু পদ্ধতিগত কৃষি সভ্যতা ইরানের জাগ্রোজ এলাকা থেকে এসেছে তাই কৃষি সংক্রান্ত উৎসবটা সেখান থেকেই এসেছে।

সম্রাট আকবর বাংলা সন প্রবর্তন করেছিলেন সেটা সাল গণনা ও কর আদায়ের সুবিধার জন্য। সেটা যে সর্বত্র উৎসবের সাথে মিলতে হবে তেমন কোন কথা নেই। সাল গণনা বা খাজনা কোনটাই উৎসবের বিষয় নয়।

প্রায় তিন হাজার বছর আগে থেকে পশ্চিম এশিয়া, ইরান, মধ্য এশিয়া, বলকান এলাকা, কৃষ্ণ সাগর এলাকা, দক্ষিন এশিয়া, বিশেষ করে আমাদের এই এলাকার নববর্ষ উৎসব কৃষির প্রথম ফসল ঘরে তোলার উৎসবের সাথে সম্পর্কিত।

এটা যে ইরান থেকে এসেছে সেটা আমাদের এখানকার মুসলমান পন্ডিতেরা সবসময় চেপে গেছে। এর কারণ তাহলে এটা নিয়ে তাহলে হিন্দুদের দোষ দেওয়া বা বাংলা সংস্কৃতিকে হেয় করা যাবে না।

আবার ইরানীরা হল শিয়া, এর ফলে সবাই যদি শিয়া হয়ে যায় সেই ভয়ও এই সত্য চেপে যাবার একটা কারণ। আামাদের পূর্বপুরুষেরা যারা ধর্ম সংশ্লিষ্ট বই পত্র লিখেছেন তারা ছিলেন সামাজিক সাংস্কৃতিক শিক্ষার দিক থেকে নিতান্ত অসৎ ও দুর্নীতিবাজ। ভুয়া ইসলাম প্রচারের খায়েশে তারা সত্যকে বিসর্জন দিয়েছেন প্রায় সবাই। উনাদের কারণেই আজ এদেশ শয়তানবাদীদের কারখানায় পরিণত হয়েছে। যার চুড়ান্ত পরিণতি হচ্ছে ইহুদি-মার্কিনিদের গোলাম হওয়া।
