If you're doing SEO in 2025, you already know one thing: keyword research tools are getting insanely expensive. Not everyone has $130+ a month to spend just to find a few keywords. And honestly, most people don’t even need that level of depth.
So I’ve been testing a new workflow for keyword research that doesn’t require Semrush or Ahrefs at all. Completely free. And the crazy part? It’s actually faster.
🔨Here’s the process:
I use two tools only: Perplexity and ChatGPT. That’s it. No paid plans.
Perplexity does the heavy lifting—high-level keywords, long-tail ideas, NLP keywords, FAQs, even search intent. It pulls real web data and gives you exactly what people are searching for.
Then ChatGPT organizes everything into a clean CSV that you can upload straight into Google Sheets.
📤In 5 minutes, you get:
Main keywords
Long-tail keywords
Real user questions
NLP variations (this part is gold for voice + AI search)
Related topics for building topical authority
Search volume + CPC
And one clean spreadsheet with all of it
This used to take me literally hours.
The real benefit?
You’re not chasing random keyword difficulty scores anymore. You’re discovering what people are actually asking, and that’s what the future of SEO is becoming: Answer Engine Optimization. If you can answer user questions better and clearer than everyone else, you win.
If you want to build topic clusters, you just pick any keyword from your sheet and repeat the same process. That’s how you build authority without touching an expensive tool.
So yeah, keyword research doesn’t have to drain your bank account.
It just needs the right workflow.
