Today, Bangladesh mourns the loss of Sharif Osman Hadi - a leading voice of the July Uprising, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, and a courageous advocate against authoritarianism and political violence.

After being critically injured in a targeted gun attack, Hadi passed away while receiving treatment at Singapore General Hospital. His death is not just a personal tragedy; it is a painful reminder of how fragile civic safety and democratic space remain in Bangladesh.

Hadi rose from a student activist to a national political figure, becoming a symbol of resistance, dignity, and hope for a more just and democratic Bangladesh. His voice represented a generation that refuses to accept fear as normal.

Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Dr. Muhammad Yunus - globally respected Nobel Peace Prize laureate and a name known across continents - addressed the nation, declaring state mourning and committing to justice for this brutal crime. The world knows Dr. Yunus for his lifelong work on peace, inclusion, and human dignity; today, those values are being tested at home.

For international friends and colleagues:

This moment matters. It raises urgent questions about political violence, rule of law, and the protection of democratic voices in Bangladesh.

Sharif Osman Hadi may be gone, but his ideals will continue to inspire those who believe in justice, sovereignty, and human rights.
