Happy to have been part of this year’s typeforce 14 exhibition among so many talented artists!
at Co-prosperity in Bridgeport Chicago, USA.

This artwork is an experimental piece based on Arabic typography, inspired by the Kufic script. It features the phrase ‘كُنْ كَمَا تَكُونُ’, which means ‘Be as you are’ in English.

Thank you, typeforce team for all the amazing work you’ve done to put this exhibition together!

Last month I had the pleasure to be part of the Typography Jury for the D&AD D&AD Awards 2026 alongside such inspiring designers Liu Zhao liuzhao, Felix Sng sngfelix, Sol Matas Sol Matas {Type Design} ☀️👩‍💻✏️🔡✈️🍫, Zeynep Akay zeynepakay, Vini Vieira Vini Vieira and Alexander Stewart.

What I’ll take away most from this experience is the opportunity to spend time with people who care deeply about design and to learn from the different perspectives each juror brought to the table. The quality of the submissions was truly extraordinary, you could almost award everyone. Selecting the winners was far from easy, but perhaps that is the best kind of challenge a jury can face.

Thank you to D&AD for the invitation, the trust, and for creating a space that brings together and celebrates creativity from around the world.💫

Identity concept developed in collaboration between Kinda Ghannoum and hala_alafsaa. This direction was explored as part of the branding process and remained one of several unselected proposals.

‏Al Manhal is a social-enterprise bookstore and bakery in the heart of Damascus’s Old City. Through bread and books, it creates a space for connection, dialogue, and cultural renewal as Syria enters a new chapter.

Drawing from historic Levantine emblems and badge-style logos, the identity combines architectural references with bold typography to create a distinctive and place-rooted visual language.

The logo merges the geometric precision of Kufic script with the organic forms of Damascus’s historic arches, creating a contemporary mark grounded in local heritage.

For this year’s Refugee Welcome Week T-shirt, we wanted a design that spoke not only to refugees, but to the connections between struggles for freedom, dignity, and belonging.

Together with the designer and the , we drew inspiration from a 1968 Syrian postage stamp commemorating Palestine Day. The original stamp featured a hand holding a torch in front of the map of Palestine—a powerful symbol of resistance, liberation, and solidarity, designed by Mahmoud Hammad .

In Kinda’s reinterpretation, the torch remains at the center, but the message is expanded through the Arabic phrase “تحرُرنا مترابطٌ” (“Our liberation is connected”). The design reminds us that none of our struggles exist in isolation. The fight for refugee rights, racial justice, q***r liberation, decolonization, and Palestinian freedom are deeply interconnected.

At a time when fear and division are becoming political tools, this design is an invitation to imagine solidarity differently: not as charity, but as a shared commitment to each other’s freedom.

Because our liberation is connected.
