Last week, halfway through the Women4IT project, we gathered in Malta for the Validation Workshop. ✅

🔎👩‍💻 During the event, leading experts in the field of digital skills, education and youth work tested and evaluated the project tools: Women4IT profiling platform, training roadmaps and the employment toolkit.

🧠📲 The face-to-face discussions around the tools have already been incredibly helpful in driving the ever-increasing quality of the Women4IT learning solutions. However, we also look forward to receiving further feedback via online channels from the experts that couldn't join us in Malta due to the current public health concerns.

Diversity is hugely important at DIGITALEUROPE. We have a female leader and a gender-balanced team. But on we must also reflect on how as a sector we can improve. The vast majority of tech executives are still men, and there are four times as many male ICT specialists as female. With the ever-increasing pace of technological change and digitisation of jobs, we simply cannot afford for half of the population to fall out of the labour market in the future.

By 2025, our target is that 6% of working women should be ICT specialists.

How do we get there?

One way is to support initiatives like Women4IT that aim to bring more female talent into digital. Women4IT, of which DIGITALEUROPE is a proud partner, focuses especially on engaging young women that are neither in employment nor education (NEET) and empowering them to take the first step into their digital careers. How? By providing tailored digital skills training and job placement assistance as well as showcasing female role models whose success stories can inspire girls and young women to choose STEM.

DIGITALEUROPE eagerly welcomed today's appointments for the Von der Leyen Commission. These decisions serve as a strong and positive signal that the European Commission is giving top priority to the digital transformation and the concept of Europe fit for the digital age.

There is no doubt that the goals of the new European Commission go hand in hand with DIGITALEUROPE's ambition for the digital advancement of the European continent. Therefore, we would gladly work together with Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager on digital affairs; with Executive Vice President Frans Timmermans on the sustainability agenda; with Commissioner Sylvie Goulard on industrial policy and achieving an unfragmented digital single market; and with Commissioner Mariya Gabriel on research and digital skills.

We wish the appointed policy-makers all the best and are looking forward to engaging with them in the future.
