In September 2026, the European rules set out in the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (ECGT) Directive will come into force in all Member States. From then on, companies’ environmental claims will need to be more specific, transparent and verifiable, and sustainability labels – which are already widely used in communication and marketing – will also have to comply with stricter rules. 💯

Together with legal and sustainability experts Jan Clinck (ALTIUS), Nicolas Lambert and Geert Van Aelst (Südzucker), we looked at which environmental claims (and in particular sustainability labels) will be most affected.🤝

At recent discussions organized by the of Commerce (ICC) in London, industry leaders came together to explore practical and operational solutions. Through its global Marketing & Advertising Commission, chaired by Alice Himsworth (Senior Counsel at Google), the ICC is helping bridge perspectives between advertisers, agencies, platforms, self-regulatory organizations and experts 🤝

One thing is clear: tackling scam advertising requires collective responsibility, stronger collaboration and international guidance that keeps pace with evolving threats ⚠️
