Step one is brand building and should not be confused with brand maintenance. Building a brand is done by branding and creates a strong foundation for your business.

Secondly, publicity is in general more effective in the beginning than advertising because what others say about your brand is much more powerful than what you say about yourself.

Lastly, advertising is a powerful tool that won't get a new brand off the ground but is very important when maintaining your position in the market.

1. A logo has to reflect what the company does.
2. A logo must include a symbol.
3. A logo should follow the industry style.
4. A logo has to be likeable and has to have everything in it.

Building a powerful brand doesnโ€™t always mean that youโ€™re the leader of the pack. As a brand you can also be very powerful by being of constant value or to stand for something strong.

fUsers who continuously find value or engage with what you stand for are more likely to tell their friends about it. Products & services with higher user engagement also have the potential to grow faster than their opponents. And as a bonus, you won't have to invest as much money in marketing.

Secondly, by choosing a niche, even when itโ€™s a very small one, you can become a leader of a new category. It helps you to keep the focus on only one product or service and it turns out that people are more likely to buy from a specialist/leader than a generalist who can do it all. Sounds like WIN-WIN to me!

Branding has no clear data-based advantages because it influences so many aspects of your business. It's the foundation for a strong brand and when done wrong, it can have an impact on bigger issues like low sales or slow growth. When done right, branding can be the accelerating factor you've been looking for.

Should you rather spend your money on branding or marketing?

Actually, you'll need both. But the big difference between them is timing and is depending on your needs. Do you need short term selling or long term engagement? Or both?

I like to think about branding and marketing as they were fries and mayonaise. ๐Ÿคค Branding could work alone but works better with marketing like fries are better with a 'goei kwak' of mayonaise. Eating fries alone is fine but not great because there's still missing something. Eating mayonaise alone is only good for a (very) short period of time.

Branding is long term thinking, building a strong foundation for later exposure. Marketing on the other hand is more short term thinking, selling and engagement.

Without marketing no one will know about your product or service but without branding no one will give a ๐Ÿ’ฉ.

BRANDING...

A word with many definitions, and not all of them equally correct.

For me, like for Marty Neumeier, a brand signifies a person's gut feeling about a product, service or organization, whereas branding is the tool to influence or match this perception with what you want to be known for.

A brand is not what you say it is, it is what they say it is.

This post is a simplification of what branding is, but it shows how branding influences, sometimes subconsciously, our daily choices. Decisions on the look of your brand, your pricing and your tone of voice are all part of branding.

Ever wondered if your logo is a strong logo? And what the characteristics are of a good logo? Should you reconsider a rebrand before you'll register your logo as a trademark?

A logo has nothing to do with your personal preferences so it's important you can detach yourself completely from all your emotional arguments.

Also a logo doesn't communicate anything. It's made to be recognizable and should past the draw test. It should be adaptable to different carriers or deliverables. It also needs to be suitable & appropriate to the sector you're in but and at the same time be distinctive enough from your competition. Lastly, a timeless design that is free from temporary design trends but that can be kept up-to-date through time without losing it's uniqueness.

For her branding she was looking for a modern look that fits her personality and the sector sheโ€™s part of. Sana is a very professional and communicative, straightforward person who knows what she wants.

The O and C in the logo are joint by a hyphen. This depicts the connection between her and the field she works in - but not only that. Moreover, this connection fits in perfectly with Sana's Tunisian roots, because of the resemblance with Berber signs.

I actually donโ€™t like to talk about trends because most trends are temporary and donโ€™t have a lot of long-term impact. What I do like to talk about are movements. "Movements influence the way people will live their lives in the future", dixit Carla Buzasi, CEO and President of WGSN.

In this post, I'll discuss my view on some of the movements we already felt in 2020, that will keep rising to importance in 2021.

You start from a common ground; sharing the same interests and values are crucial when building a connection and gaining the confidence of your audience.

At first, building these connections will be far more important than trying to sell your product or service. People are more interested in the how and the why than in the what.
