When I ask clients what they hope to achieve through increased social media marketing activity I often get the answer ‘more followers’🤦🏽‍♀️

Whilst followers are a great way to measure brand awareness, the end goal should really be increased business activity.

I like to remind my clients that 100 relevant followers who are interested in what you’re selling are worth way more than 1000 followers who do not engage.

Build a community, not a following.

❌Buying Followers❌

How to spot them, and why you should NEVER 🙅🏽‍♀️

Bought followers are easy to spot. They’re often bots or inactive accounts with little to no posts and handles with loads of numbers and special characters 🤦🏽‍♀️ it’s also pretty obvious to tell which accounts have them. Look out for the accounts with loads of followers but no engagement or spammy irrelevant comments on their posts.

Whilst it’s easy to fall into the trap of believing you need millions of followers to stay relevant - buying followers is absolutely not the way to grow your audience. In fact, it’s actually super damaging to your engagement.

The algorithm will notice you have tons of followers but no engagement, which signals to Instagram that your post is not worth sharing on the explore page or in your real audiences newsfeed. It also makes it hard to measure metrics and it’s against instagrams terms of service.

If you’re a business, struggling to grow your audience you’re definitely not going to sell your services to fake followers. You need genuine & organic growth which can be achieved through strategic marketing.

After all, it’s better to have 30 people engaging and buying into your products or services than 1000+ followers who simply do not care.

I’ll touch more on why having thousands of followers doesn’t necessarily mean your business is thriving in a separate post but to conclude….

I hope everyone enjoyed their Eid holidays and for those in the UK, I hope you enjoyed the heatwave! 🔥

I've been a little quiet on this page having taken 2 weeks off to explore Zanzibar (swipe for some holiday pics) but I'm back and ready to hit some goals! I spent the weekend creating and scheduling my posts for the next month and I am so excited to get stuck back into my little side hustle and continue to help small businesses establish their online presence.

Instagram Algorithm 💡

Remember when your instagram timeline used to be ranked in chronolgical order? So whoever posted last would be at the top? (ahhh the good old days) 👵🏽

Instagram is no longer like this. Your feed is now based upon what Instagram thinks you want to see the most. The Instagram algorithm wants to prioritize posts from your friends, family, and accounts that you care about. 🤍

So in order for Instagram to show you what you want (what you really, really want😉), the algorithm uses your interactions to piece together who is closest to you.
