We'd been looking for bike attachments for kids for a while but were slightly deterred by the cost. We wanted to be able to ride greater distances with N than what walking allows for. One day we were driving to my brother's house and saw this one at a garage sale for $50. So funny how the universe collaborates in our favor if we're paying attention. We did a quick u- turn, stopped the car and ten minutes later we had this little bike extension in the back of the car. And now, it's given us wings and the length of N's legs are no longer a factor! We can just go! This third wheel has already ridden through the mud and on paved roads and finally had its first day on the beach. . Having the bikes with us is always a good way to reach amazing places as we're exploring 😎
The conditions here on the beaches of the island are perfect: low tide with just enough hard sand to make it possible to bike without fat tires. Add to that an excited toddler ready to take on the world and that pre sunset light, and well, the scene was just... Worth remembering.

It was a long, (rare) day in the city. Bureaucracy called again so the three of us trekked south to sort out what needed to be sorted. We’ve been living in the ‘country’ for years so every trip to the city is an intense experience - different sounds, crowded views, fast-paced movement; all senses on high alert.
Nature seemed to have noticed that we needed a good dose of her to decompress, and she showed up big-time for us yesterday evening. When I watch my son immersed in the quiet, on the lookout for tadpoles, or exploring the mud, I feel two things. One of course, is immense gratitude for being able to give this to him. But the other is this desire, this wish for all children to have access to being outside everyday. To nature’s noises and her quiet. To her endless offers of play. Children blossom in her simplicity.
I’m so glad to see so many IG accounts dedicated to kids getting outside and the importance of playing in nature. Let’s keep it up. 💚
