The Royal Bahamas Police Force Urban Renewal Marching Band received its largest instrument donation to-date from Grand Bahama Power Company during a presentation at the Police Canteen on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey applauded the significant investment and commended corporate Grand Bahama and community partners for supporting the island’s youth.

The presentation concluded with an impressive performance by the band’s talented senior high school musicians.

BALLOON RELEASES ARE ILLEGAL IN THE BAHAMAS. HERE’S WHY.

A balloon released into the air does not disappear. It eventually comes down, often in our ocean, along our coastlines or in our communities. Balloon materials can break down into microplastics, which can remain in the environment for decades or longer. Marine life can ingest these particles, while balloons and ribbons can also cause entanglement, injury and death to wildlife.

This matters to us because seafood is part of our food supply, and microplastics have been detected in seafood consumed by humans. Balloon releases are illegal in The Bahamas and can result in a $1,000 fine. If you witness a balloon release, report it to the Department of Environmental Planning and Protection (DEPP). Choose responsible ways to celebrate and memorialize loved ones without releasing waste into the environment. The environment protects us. Let’s work together to protect it.

Get ready, Grand Bahama!

The 2026 International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day is set for Saturday, September 19, 2026 at various beaches throughout Grand Bahama, from Gold Rock in the East to Bootle Bay in the West. The cleanup is set to begin at 8am and wrap up at 10am.

All our encouraged to participate by signing up for the beach of their choice.

MISSION PAWsible: Know the Law — Week 2 🐾
A responsible owner makes sure their dog can be identified.
Under the Animal Protection and Control framework, a dog without a collar and identification tag can attract a $50 penalty.
A simple tag can also help reunite your dog with you if it becomes lost or gets out of your yard.
📅 AMNESTY PERIOD: September 1–30, 2026
Use this period to get your dog licensed and bring yourself into compliance. Dog licensing is FREE during the amnesty period. Thereafter, citations carrying the applicable penalties will begin to be issued.
📍 Visit the Ministry of Agriculture & Marine Resources, One Montague Place, Third Floor to license your dog.
License Costs:
Spayed & Neutered Dogs: FREE (with documentation proof of spay and neuter)
Intact Dogs: $11
