Self-image a performance thermostat.
Last week we had a discussion on conscious and subconscious minds and closed by agreeing that you will clearly define the person you want to be and your goals. My request to you was that be clear on the destination you want to reach.
This week I want us to look at how the beliefs and self-image we hold of ourselves affect / determine our performance. Who do you believe you are / what is the self-image (picture) you hold of yourself?
Your beliefs and self-image are your performance thermostat – your performance will always be set at the level of your beliefs. Your performance in any area of your life (health, spiritual or finances and etc) is a reflection of who you say you are concerning that area. You cannot outperform who you say you are, any such performance will be temporary as it is not congruent with your self-image as held in the subconscious mind. As long as your beliefs and self-image do not change, your performance will remain the same.
Presently, you are this person because you have allowed society to convince you, to a point of no doubt, that this is: who you are, what you are capable of, what you can achieve, what you are worth etc. In short your current results are consistent with who you believe you are, for that which is externally seen is simply a reflection of what is held within.
The beliefs you hold give rise to the habits (daily actions) that sustain and anchor them. Our beliefs, internally know to us, are reflected to people around us through our daily habits. For example if you belief in good health (internally known to you) – you adopt habits like exercising, watching your diet, meditating, and etc (externally seen by people) to make this belief alive. A belief not acted upon is no belief at all. If you believe you are a Christian you adopt habits such as: going to church, praying, reading the Bible and etc. It is the daily actions / habits that communicate your beliefs to the people around you.
It is therefore very important to understand that we can make a lasting change in our lives by holding a different set of empowering beliefs to drive us to our goals / destinations.
In conclusion this week I want you to look at different areas of your life (health, finances, family and community, career, spiritual and etc.) and identify limiting beliefs that are not helping you to be this person you want to be. What do you belief about yourself that says you cannot be this person that you really want to be? Take an honest self-image / belief audit. Once you have done that, identify their opposites being desirable beliefs that will help you to reach your destination.
Next week we will look at how we can make this desirable beliefs a part of us and use our mind power to drive us to our goals for the mind is a goal seeking instrument.
Enjoy your weekend and stay blessed.
