CASTLE RUINS SERIES:
McKinnon Seat, Isle of Skye, Scotland

We made this journey from the ruins of the ancestral home of the McKinnons on the Isle of Skye, Scotland (Leanne’s 4x Great-Grandparents were James McKinnon & Anne McInnes). This family along with others from the same region of Isle of Skye immigrated to New Brunswick almost 200 years ago!

After our trip to Scotland, we found our way through deep woods of central New Brunswick to find Scotch Settlement! You can tell just by our own photos below these Scottish families were in for the most brutal winter they’d ever faced.

CASTLE RUINS SERIES: Buchanan Castle

Following the genealogy of the Buchanan lines from New Brunswick lead us all the way to Stirlingshire, Scotland to this sleeping beauty! In its day it was quite a castle; now it's barely visible - hidden behind trees, vines and overgrowth and we did drive through a cattle pasture to finally find her! This home was also connected to Clan Graham, but originally the Buchanans received this land in the 13th century for fighting off Norse invaders in Scotland.

We began practicing ancestry research on our own family lines! It was an honour to take our children to their 6x Great-Grandparent's home!

Over the years Leanne and Mike have had the privilege of visiting many countries, including leading ancestral tours here at home in Canada as well as Scotland, Ireland, UK, France, The Netherlands, Norway and the US!

In addition to our ongoing roles as business owners with OnSite Restorations Inc, we are a research team that works to connect people with their ancestors’ stories.

Since adding this new division, we’ve been assisting our clients with research focused on their family history, citizenship goals and heir tracing needs.
