Of course Shinola is best known for its watches and leather, but did you know there's a Shinola Cola?

I discovered it at Soda Pop Bros. and knew right away it would make a statement with its minimal design. Some careful lighting magic and a refreshing spritz is all it needed to shine as bright as any timepiece. (And yes, it tastes as good as it looks!)

It all started with the garlic 🧄

I can’t be the only one who was tempted to try my hand at an easy roasted garlic confit à la Diane Morrisey Cooking a few weeks ago. And I happened to have a sausage arrabbiata ChefsPlate recipe to pair it with.

Cooking a full meal, following two recipes, and setting up to photograph all at the same time was… interesting to say the least. Any assistants out there who like to eat? 😉

Make it cool 🧊☕🧊

📸📝: A few years ago, one of my local cafés (👋 Locomotive Espresso!) introduced me to the ‘espresso tonic’, a wonderfully unusual and refreshing spin on iced coffee and it quickly became my favourite summer drink. Sometimes at home, I cheat and use a pot of drip coffee, but either way, the tonic adds a nice contrast and energizing fizz. So yeah, I know it’s only February—and snowing where I am—but give it a try!

Make it roar 🦖💬

📸📝: I bought these adorable LearnPlay dinos years ago, before my daughter was even born. They’ve been stored away since, but now that she’s finally old enough to enjoy them, it felt like the perfect time to take this playful shot. (Sidenote: They open down the middle magnetically and have full skeletons inside! 🥺)

Make it fizzzz 🥂

📸📝 I shot this (it’s a glass from the Indigo clearance section 🤫) on my folding dining table, with a single wobbly strobe through two pieces of taped-up foamcore. (Note to self: Take more behind-the-scenes pics!).

Taking my first steps into this new venture, I’m pushing myself to find new ways to play with light, and although I’ll keep expanding my equipment toolkit as I go, I’m also learning to take a creative vision and just “make it work” with whatever is available.
