Part of my education at MacEwan University was learning about art and design history so I made a fine art “Warhol/cubism” image of myself. I love that fine art and design very regularly intermingle, especially to evoke some sort of statement. On a trip to Germany, I was able to visit the Bauhaus School for Art and Design and many art museums around the area. It was an inspiring time and something I draw my brain back to for inspiration. I am often in awe of the fact that an art piece can draw raw emotions out of a person. I often wonder if any of my work has done the same; hell, even if it’s disgust I’ll take it.

If there is one animal that could best represent a mother’s love, it’s that of the bear. Fiercely protective, caring, nurturing. She readies her cubs for the world at large and then sends them off into the world to live their own lives.

HAPPY STAR WARS DAY! And May the 4th be with you.
Mandelorians, The Hutt clan, Rebels, Empire, there's all sorts of logos and graphics that have to be deigned with thought behind them to build the world and lore of Star Wars. This is the image that was displayed in Star Wars Rebels to represent a spy named 'Fulcrum' which in the end, was revealed to be Ahsoka, who tipped the scales for the rebels in the war.

I still love to illustrate as anyone who receives our yearly Christmas card can attest (I’ll post those later), but I really found my niche with logo and brand identities. I enjoy the challenge of taking a client’s needs, and translating that into something that visually represents their business and the feelings that they want to simulate to their customers. For the logo designing process, you want to narrow down to the features that represent your brand. I did the same with my appearance. At base level I am hair, glasses and a beard. Straight forward and uniform, my logo can now be scaled down to 1-inch squared and you’ll still be able to pick out those pieces. Through the use of rudimentary shape concepts (round corners, right angles) our brain picks up on visual cues we’ve learned since we were toddlers. The most successful logos stand the test of time because the form has been reduced to such a level that changing it further would look like excess. When building brands, less is more.

It’s the most wonderful tiiiime of the year Yes, I’m one of those Halloween people. The thing I love about Halloween isn’t the treats or scaring, it’s the fact that Halloween is about pure unfiltered fun. That’s it, that’s all. Whatever your reason for participating, it’s about fun and I think that we need that.
