A press release doesn’t stop working if the media doesn’t pick it up.

Of course, media coverage is the goal. But no one can guarantee that an editor or journalist will run your story.

What you can do is make sure that a well-written release keeps working for you.

• Post it on your website.
• Share it on LinkedIn and social media.
• Send it to clients, prospects, or referral partners.
• Include it in your newsletter.
• Use the story as the starting point for other content.

A good press release gives you something more valuable than a one-time announcement. It helps you tell a story about your business that’s worth sharing.

And if the media picks it up? Even better.

Have a story your business should be telling?

Since the beginning of the year, one thought kept running through my head: it was time to make a change in my business. I launched my business in 1997 – nearly 30 years ago – and I’ve changed since then (boy, have I changed!).

Of course, my business has seen many changes throughout the years, but they’ve almost always been about expansion – adding more programs… doing more.

This year, I started asking different questions: Does what I’m doing and offering still fit? Am I genuinely enjoying what I’m doing? And where do I really want to spend my time and energy?

Does your bio sound like you – or could almost anyone in your industry say the same thing?

I've just released a new free guide: How to Write a Bio That Truly Stands Apart.

Inside are the 17 questions I ask my clients to uncover the story, expertise, and personality that make them different – including things they often hadn't thought to include.

Because a strong bio isn't simply a list of credentials. It's an opportunity to show people who you are, what you bring to the table, and why you're someone worth remembering.

I've also included a simple framework to help you turn your answers into a bio that actually sounds like you.

I’m dreaming about France…

I’m exploring the possibility of hosting a writer’s retreat in the Loire Valley, France, in October 2027 – or possibly 2028.

This would be different from my intimate Soulful Writer’s Retreat for Women here in Ontario – it would be open to both women and men, and of course, we’d draw inspiration from the local area for some of our writing exercises.

A small group of writers. Time to write, learn, connect, explore – and enjoy a little French food and w**e along the way.

Right now, I’m simply gauging interest – no commitment whatsoever.

Intrigued? DM me and let me know if 2027 or 2028 interests you more.

The 2027 Soulful Writer’s Retreat dates are here!

What if next summer included four days set aside entirely for you and your writing?

Four days to write.
To learn.
To share stories and meaningful conversations.
To enjoy fabulous food.
And to simply breathe.

The Soulful Writer’s Retreat for Women is an intimate gathering of just five women at my home near the shores of Lake Huron – which means there’s plenty of time, space, and personal attention for every writer.

2027 Retreat Dates
🌿 June 14–17
🌿 August 23–26

And writers are already planning ahead – two of the five spots for August are already taken.

You can secure your spot – and your preferred room – now with a $500 deposit.

As one of this summer’s writers shared:
“It was the highlight of my summer!”

Sometimes the biggest changes begin with a simple question:

Does this still fit?

Lately, I’ve been taking a closer look at my business – not just at what I offer, but at what I genuinely enjoy doing, where I do my best work, and where I want to spend my time and energy.

This has been on my mind since springtime, then an in-depth conversation with my wonderful son-law-in in July really set the wheels in motion.

It’s interesting how easy it is to keep doing something because we’ve always done it. Because we’re good at it. Because people expect it. Or simply because we’ve never stopped long enough to question it.

But businesses evolve. We evolve. Change is inevitable.

And sometimes moving forward isn’t about adding something new. It’s about recognizing what still belongs – and what we’re ready to leave behind.

So, here’s a question I’ve been asking myself lately, and perhaps it’s one worth asking yourself too:

If you looked at your life through the lens of who you are today – rather than who you were five or ten years ago – what might you do differently?

Well, that’s a wrap on another phenomenal Soulful Writer’s Retreat.

Each retreat brings together women from different walks and stages of life – and somehow, they always connect with ease.

Writing has a way of bringing like-minded people together – people who are open to sharing, receiving, being vulnerable, and encouraging one another along the way.

As always, I was moved to tears during our closing ceremony. There’s something incredibly special about seeing the connections that have formed, hearing what the experience has meant, and watching everyone leave with renewed intentions for their writing, new friendships, and wonderful memories.

My heart is full.

You don't have to feel ready to start writing.

Maybe there’s an idea you’ve been carrying around for years.
A novel you started but never finished.
Family stories you keep telling yourself you'll write down someday.
Or perhaps you have a story inside you, but you're not sure where to begin.

But here’s the thing – you don't need to have it all figured out.

The Writer's Studio is a private 9-week creative writing program that gives you the structure, guidance, and personalized feedback to move your writing forward – one step at a time.

You'll strengthen your storytelling skills, find your voice, build confidence, and most importantly, write.

Because sometimes you don't become ready and then begin.
You begin – and that's how you become ready.

“We were never taught this in school.”

That’s something one participant said after one of my Business Writing Training sessions.

And it’s true for many professionals.

You learn how to do your job. You develop expertise. You take on more responsibility.

Then you're expected to write clear emails, organize reports, communicate complex ideas simply, adjust your tone for different audiences – and make it easy for a busy reader to know what to do next.

But who actually taught you how?

My Business Writing Training gives teams practical skills they can use immediately – using your organization’s own writing as examples.

Because better writing doesn't just make better writers.

It makes business easier.
