URGENT APPEAL FOR THE DECLARATION OF A STATE OF EMERGENCY ON THE WELFARE AND WELL-BEING OF ORDINARY CITIZENS
Dear President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,
I am writing to bring to your attention the dire circumstances that the common citizens of our nation are currently facing. It is with great concern that I must inform you that even civil servants, who earn a minimum wage of N30,000, are unable to afford a bag of rice priced at N60,000. This situation is in stark contrast to the promises you made to us, sir.
People are diligently working, yet they find themselves plagued by hunger due to the relentless rise in commodity prices, particularly when it comes to food. It is disheartening to witness this hardship unfold before our eyes. Moreover, it is dismaying to note that a significant majority, approximately 95%, of your ministers seem to be inactive and unproductive. This has led to a growing sense of regret among those who voted for you, sir.
I implore you to understand that our criticism of your government does not stem from a lack of faith in your leadership. On the contrary, it is precisely because we believe in your capabilities that we campaigned, mobilized, and ultimately voted for you. However, it is our responsibility as citizens to hold our elected officials accountable and voice our concerns when necessary.
In light of these circumstances, I humbly request that you declare a state of emergency regarding the welfare and well-being of ordinary citizens. This would demonstrate your unwavering commitment to addressing the pressing needs of the people who entrusted you with their votes.
I trust in your wisdom and leadership, Mr. President, and I am hopeful that you will take swift and decisive action to alleviate the suffering of the common citizens.
Yours sincerely,
Oni Opeyemi Henry
