Time. That is the limiting factor in many businesses. If you aren’t working frontline in your business the work isn’t getting done and you aren’t getting a pay check.

❔So how do you make time to tackle the marketing?
❔How do you even know what type of marketing you need?

Both very good questions that vary business to business, person to person.

My best advice is you find a marketing business you trust and you sit down with them and talk this out. This isn’t a one fits all, this is a plan that should be tailored to your business and business growth goals.

My second best advice is don’t let your marketing sit on the back burner till you realize business is slow. Have it up and running, so you always have customers knocking on your door or sending you emails looking for more information about the services you offer!

Everyone has something about them that makes their business stand out. Have you sat down and thought what that might be about you?

It can be hard, a lot of times being bold and speaking on why people should pick you, can feel awkward and intimidating.

I've had to work at this over the years to overcome that feeling of 'bragging'. It boils down to if you don't speak up and tell folks why you are the one that can help them, you are not going to be able to help the people who are looking for help. Silence will get you no where.

So what is a super power in your business that everyone should know about?

One of mine is emergencies, I am a rock in emergency situations. If you are feeling the crunch and need someone to weather the storm with you, yup that's me. Taking tense, urgent, unpredictable situations and logically working through them to come out the other side with success!

Are you speaking directly to your ideal clients?

It’s easy to think if you narrow your message to one specific person you are missing everyone else. It’s the complete opposite.

When you try and speak to everyone, you in fact reach no one! By narrowing your message to your ideal people, it hits them in a way not everyone accomplishes online. In a way that they feel you are speaking directly to them, directly through the screen. A connection is made.

Messaging is powerful, and when you get it right, that’s when you bring in those high value clients that appreciate your hard work. Your people.

A lot of trades owners tell me the same thing:
“I’m lost when people start talking tech.”

Fair. Most marketing folks do overcomplicate it.
So let’s make this simple, here are 5 digital terms every trades business should understand.
1. Domain: Your online address. Like the street your shop would sit on.
2. Hosting: The land you’re renting so your website has somewhere to live.
3. Website: Your online storefront. It should feel like you and show your work.
4. SEO: How Google decides who to show first. Not magic, just structure.
5. Conversion: When someone goes from “looking” to “calling.”

That’s it. No fancy jargon. No pressure to become a tech wizard.
Just clear, practical pieces that help you get seen, trusted, and hired by better clients.

Most owners I work with say the same thing:
“I’m not techy.”
And they say it like it’s a problem.

Let me tell you something
👉 You don’t need to be techy to win online.
👉 You don’t need to learn coding.
👉 You don’t need to understand fancy marketing terms.
👉 You don’t even need to like technology.

What you do need is someone who can translate the digital world into plain English and build you something simple, that actually works.

Here’s the truth:
Your customers are online and they’re choosing the businesses that LOOK trustworthy.
Not the cheapest.
Not the biggest.

Just the ones who look like they have their stuff together.
And you can absolutely be one of them.
You already know how to run a business.
You already know how to deliver great work.
You already have happy clients.
You already have the skill.
You don’t need to be “techy”…
You just need the right strategy and a guide who won’t overwhelm you or sell you stuff you don’t need.

You’re not behind. You’re not bad at tech.
You just haven’t had it explained properly.

Owning a business as an introvert is no joke!

I can make your website beautiful, I can design it to convert, I can get it to show up on searches, all the things. You as a business owner still have to go out there and do the scary networking. Trust me, I get it, I am an introvert.

Here are 5 things that have helped me get out there and do the scary things.

1. Commit. Don't wait and decide last minute if you are going to attend the conference, the trade show, the business dinner. Commit early and figure out the details after, you will always find a reason not to go, but committing to the RSVP will hold you to it.
2. Go with a game plan, have a strategy on what you are going to ask the new people you meet. Maybe it is going to be "what do you do for fun when you aren't here?"
3. Go prepared with YOUR answer on the dreaded question "what is your business?" I'm pretty sure it's a common theme amongst many that we hate talking about ourselves, we would much rather hear about others. Practice this so it's natural and represents you. Remember you are the face of your brand.
4. Set clear goals, decide what you want to achieve before the event, maybe it's to have 2 meaningful conversations, this provides you with focus and hopefully less anxiety.
5. How are you going to connect with folks that you have had those meaningful convos with? Go with a gameplay, maybe you will add them to your socials right there on the spot, maybe you will exchange business cards, think this through so you are prepared.

Are you seeing a theme here. Be prepared, be intentional.

I'm Ebony, 42, mom of 3, homesteader, married to a fisherman, love chickens, and love everything gardening.

I just happened to go to college for Business and majored in marketing. Took a huge break to raise my family, but always dabbled in it behind the scenes, usually print, did the whole DIY website grind, loved all of it.
