So I did a thing…

Actually I didn’t do it, my kids are doing it.
I’m very proud of them!

They started a social media page for our pet cockatiel: Lily.

It started as a joke one day, when Lily got sick and had to go to the vet.
The bill came to some crazy amount like $600 or so.
And I said, “Lily, we have to get you internet famous so you can pay for yourself!”.

Then joking I mentioned to my kids that they should turn it into a business…

One spring break later, I got my son to start the movement. My daughter chipped in by drawing the logo.
It’s only been a couple of weeks and LilyTheBirdie on TikTok is now at 600 followers, and 30k+ video views.

We’ve mapped out a few story arcs and regular posts and monetization strategies.
My children are watching videos and training on hashtag usage, trends, how to gain more views vs more followers vs engagement.

Soon Lily can pay for her own toys, and seeds…
And the goal is to buy my kids a car!

Then… I’ll be able to say.
“My bird makes more money on the internet than you do.”

So SHAW internet has failed me, and they were down for a whopping 20 hours. (in a row) naturally I was frustrated so since they forced me to jaunt on down over to my local starbucks (who happens to use a different provider) I made a meme to vent my frustration and posted it on twitter, facebook, etc. Shortly after the post, Telus (Shaw's main competitor) reached out and said "hi" with a wink. And now I'm in talks with them - just like that. Sometimes my marketing rants will be observations on marketing done right.
