https://www.foamworksinc.com/Turns out a regular bench wasn't exciting enough. 🦈
What started as a 3D model turned into a full-scale custom fabrication project, complete with hand-finished details, custom paintwork, and enough teeth to make you think twice about sitting down.
Some benches are for sitting.
This one is for surviving. 😆

🦈 This project definitely has more teeth than most 😅
Part 1 of this giant shark build is here. Starting with massive foam shapes, we spent hours carving, shaping, detailing, and painting until this thing started looking ready to charge through the wall.
Safe to say the shop got a little more intimidating for a few days 👀

Big foam blocks + bright blue paint = one very Calgary project ☀️💙
We had the chance to create this oversized “Blue Sky City” installation for Tourism Calgary, and seeing it all come together in the shop was such a fun build. From raw foam shaping to final paint and assembly, every piece was custom fabricated in-house.
Safe to say the shop was looking a little extra blue for a while 😅

Big helmet energy 🏒😄
This oversized RONA hockey helmet started as a concept on a screen and turned into a fully interactive photo activation. Complete with an adjustable lift system so fans of all heights can jump in and snap a shot.
Definitely one of the fun builds to roll through the shop. From foam carving and fabrication to paint, acrylic, mechanics, and final assembly… the team absolutely crushed this one.

Every big build starts with an idea… and usually a lot of foam dust 😄
We take you behind the scenes, from the first 3D design to carving, shaping, and building out the structure that makes it all possible. What starts on a screen slowly turns into real, full-scale pieces on the shop floor.
This is the stage where things still look a little rough around the edges, but that’s where the magic begins.

From foam blocks to mountain views at the top of Banff Gondola 🐻🏔️
This bear had quite the journey. Starting as carved foam, moving through layers of shaping, finishing, and paint, and finally making the trip up the mountain for installation. Seeing visitors stop, snap photos, and share a moment with it makes all the behind-the-scenes work worth it.
The custom concrete base was a project of its own, created in collaboration with Chipcrete Designs, helping give this piece a solid place to stand.
Huge thanks to Banff Gondola for trusting us with this one. It’s pretty special seeing something built in the shop become part of such an iconic view.
If you’re heading up the gondola, keep an eye out… this bear is ready for its photo ops 📸

Big builds, bold details, and a little Texas pride 👢
This giant custom cowboy boot was built from the ground up in our shop. Shaped, coated, painted, and finished entirely by hand.
Designed for the Texas Rangers, this boot is now headed South, ready to stand tall and make a statement.
Projects like this remind us that great fabrication is equal parts precision, patience, and creativity.

The transformation begins 🐻‍
With the carving complete, it’s time to give the skull strength and life.
Layers of hard coating, careful surface work, and hours of refining turn raw foam into something built to last. Every pass adds weight, texture, and realism, pushing the piece closer to being finished.
This is the stage where it stops looking like foam… and starts feeling real.

Bringing the structure together 🐻‍❄
With the rough shapes established, it’s time to assemble the massive sections and refine the details. From carving teeth to shaping the jaw, this is where the polar bear skull truly starts to come to life.

Rough shaping the polar bear skull
The fabrication of this giant polar bear skull begins with foam blocking, and precision carving.
For Split Tooth: Saputjiji, our team carefully studied skull anatomy before shaping the primary structure using hot tools, sanding, and detailed sculpting techniques. Every contour is built step by step to create a realistic and durable final piece.
This is just the beginning.
Follow along as we take this build from foam to finished skull.
