📈 Real SEO. Real Results.

AB Stucco Calgary is now ranking #1 for “parging Calgary” and in the Top 3 across 4 high-intent search terms.

Unpopular Truth — #02
"You need to blog every week for SEO to work."
This one has burned out more small business owners than almost any other piece of SEO advice. The Calgary roofer who published 12 blog posts in a burst of motivation then stopped entirely because they ran out of ideas and time. The concrete contractor who paid a content agency for weekly posts about topics their customers never searched for. The painting company that built a blog nobody read because the content was generic enough to apply to any business in any city.
Here's what actually matters.
Frequency is not the variable. Quality and relevance are.
Google doesn't reward businesses that publish often. It rewards businesses that publish content which specifically and accurately answers what real people in their area are searching for. A single well-built service page — one that covers exactly what a Calgary homeowner types when they need a stucco repair, written in the language they use, with the location signals Google needs — will outperform 50 generic blog posts about "the importance of home maintenance."
The math most agencies won't show you:
A Calgary trades business typically ranks for somewhere between 20 and 80 meaningful local search terms — specific service types, specific neighbourhoods, specific problems. Each of those is a page opportunity, not a blog post. Building those pages properly, once, is more valuable than a weekly publishing schedule that produces content nobody was searching for in the first place.
What consistent content actually means for a local business:
It means your Google Business Profile posts are active. It means new photos go up regularly. It means reviews are coming in month after month. It means your core service pages are updated when your services change. None of that is a blog. All of it signals to Google that your business is active, relevant, and worth showing.
The businesses we work with in Calgary are tradespeople and contractors. They're on job sites, not at desks. A content strategy that requires 4 hours of writing per week will never get executed. One that builds the right pages once and maintains the right signals consistently will.

Last Wednesday we asked whether anyone had ever been sold a backlink package for their Calgary business.
We weren't expecting the response we got.
[Pull 3–4 of the most specific, honest comments from Truth #01 and reference them here, paraphrased, not quoted verbatim, to protect privacy unless the person explicitly named themselves. Example format:]
One Calgary roofing contractor told us they'd been paying $400/month for backlinks for 14 months before switching to a different agency. Their local rankings hadn't moved.
A concrete business owner said they'd been told backlinks were "the only thing that moves the needle on Google." Nobody had ever looked at their Google Business Profile.
A painting contractor said they'd asked three agencies what they were actually building and none of them could explain it in plain language.
Here's the thing: none of these business owners did anything wrong. They trusted people who spoke with authority about something technical. That's reasonable. What's not reasonable is charging for a service that doesn't address the actual problem.
For local Calgary trades and contractor businesses, the ranking factors that matter most have nothing to do with backlinks. We covered this in detail last Wednesday, link in bio to the full post.
If your agency can't explain in plain language exactly what they're doing and why it addresses your specific local ranking situation, that's worth asking about.

Apex Roofing Repair didn't come to us looking for a quick fix.
They came to us because they'd been doing good roofing work in Calgary for years and the online results weren't reflecting it. Competitors who'd been in the market for less time, with fewer completed jobs and shorter track records, were consistently outranking them for the searches that brought in real homeowner leads.
That's not a one-week problem. It's not fixed with a single audit and a profile update. It takes sustained, structured work over time, the kind most agencies don't want to commit to because the results take longer to show and the client relationship has to hold through the gap.
Here's what sustained local SEO actually looked like for Apex Roofing over the course of our engagement.
Month 1 was foundation work. Google Business Profile rebuilt from the ground up, right primary category, supporting categories that matched the searches homeowners actually use, complete service descriptions, updated photos, review cadence established. Website content restructured around high-intent Calgary roofing searches, not just "roofing contractor" but the specific problems homeowners search for: hail damage assessment, flat roof repair, emergency leak response, shingle replacement.
Month 2 was amplification. The technical foundation started returning results, rankings began moving for secondary search terms first, then core terms. Review volume increased consistently. Google Business Profile views climbed month over month as the profile gained relevance signals.
Month 3 is where the compound effect becomes visible. The searches that matter, the ones where a homeowner is already decided and just looking for who to call, Apex is there now.
The result: [insert actual metrics from client file].
Sustained SEO isn't a campaign. It's a foundation. And a foundation, built correctly, holds.

Unpopular SEO Truth #01: More Backlinks ≠ Better Rankings. 🚫

More backlinks don't automatically mean better SEO.

What matters is quality, relevance, and real authority. One strong, relevant backlink can be far more valuable than dozens of low-quality links.

SEO isn't a numbers game. It's about building the right signals that Google can trust.
