While I was at CONEXPO this year I couldn't help but notice Leica Machine Control everywhere.

Not just in their own booth, but across multiple machine brands, some straight from the factory.

When one technology starts showing up across OEMs, that tells you something.

Contractors trust it, operators want it, and manufacturers see value in partnering with it.

Leica is clearly a major player in North America’s construction technology market.

On another note, Vegas was a good time as usual.

I’ve never really talked about mental health in construction before, but it obviously exists.

This industry comes with pressure, tight tolerances, long days, and high expectations.

Andy Carmichael made a great point about how Leica machine control is helping with that in his business.

When operators aren’t fighting grade all day and second guessing every move, it removes a lot of frustration and stress.

So I guess sometimes improving mental health in construction isn’t about talking about it, it’s about removing the stress in the first place.

Like most people, I’m not exactly sold on the new LANDCROS name they picked for the rebrand.

But if I’m being honest… I’ve never really liked the Hitachi name either. It's always reminded me of a TV brand more than a dirt machine.

While I’m on the topic, I’ve never loved the orange paint and their graphics either.

All of that, and I still think they build some of the best excavators on earth.

Because when you’re actually sitting in the seat moving dirt all day, the name on the side and the color of the paint stop mattering real quick.

Leica Geosystems and Liebherr just pushed factory integrated machine control into the new Generation 8 dozers and excavators.

This means no more bolting it on after the machine shows up.

That might not sound flashy to someone scrolling Instagram, but anyone who actually runs iron knows what this means.

When a machine shows up already dialed in with the sensors, calibration, and interface integrated from the factory, everything just works better.

If you already haven't noticed, this is the direction the whole industry is moving.

It's great to see OEMs and technology companies building machines that are designed for digital construction from day one.

The dirt world is changing fast, and is keeping up.

Word has it, production starts this spring.

The best thing at Conexpo was definitely the D8XE...so much so that I couldn't get a picture of it without crowds of people standing in front of it, even on a slow day.

That said, most people walked past it and thought it’s just another dozer with a new sticker on the side. It’s not.

For decades dozers have all followed the same basic formula. Big diesel engine, torque converter, powershift transmission, driveline.

So when Caterpillar decides to change that formula, it’s not a small decision.

I mean, just think about the amount of engineering and R&D it takes to redesign the drivetrain in a machine that pushes hundreds of thousands of pounds of dirt every day.

It's heat management, torque delivery and power distribution I assume is completely different.

I bet it took years of testing, failure, redesign, and testing again before we saw it at Conexpo 2026.

So this isn't a little product update, it's a completely different way of delivering power to the ground, and I'm all for it.

Hexagon isn’t just one piece of technology. It’s an entire ecosystem.

You’ve got machine control from Leica Geosystems running in the machines, modeling and takeoffs coming from AGTEK, and platforms like Xsight360 capturing what’s actually happening on the jobsite.

The powerful part is how it all connects.

The model gets built in the office.
The file gets sent to the machines.
Operators run the job to grade.
Drones and cameras capture progress.
Management can see the entire site without even stepping on it.

Everything talks to everything.

No guessing. No chasing information. No wondering what’s actually happening out there.

That’s the real power of the Hexagon AB ecosystem.

It’s not just about moving dirt faster. It’s about turning the entire jobsite into data you can actually see, understand, and use.

This guy has done more for me than he knows...Not sure if he knows it, but he's a big deal where I'm from.

I remember a time when me and slept in his car at a conexpo cause we couldn't find a room, either that or we couldn't afford one I can't remember...Now we here.

I'm sure you've already heard about but if you haven't, let me say that he is probably the most humble guy in construction I know.

He doesn't think he's that big of deal, but I sure do.

I feel like equipment brands under estimate what happens when he decides to purchase one of their machines...

These ladies from are the real deal, and should be the biggest thing in construction right now.

If I had to say one name of who is doing the greatest things to make construction a better place it's them hands down.
