Anyone else suddenly dealing with dizziness or brutal headaches lately? 🙋🏻♀️
Because SAME — and I finally figured out why.
It’s not stress.
It’s not screens.
It’s the new Apple UI.
I stumbled onto it by accident while turning off battery-draining features… and the difference was night and day.
I really wish this update came with a disclaimer.
If you’re:
• photosensitive (lights wreck your eyes)
• prone to motion sickness or vertigo
• someone who gets eye strain or headaches easily
👇 These fixes are for YOU.
Apple added a ton of motion, depth, and auto-play visuals — great for demos, brutal for nervous systems. Turning a few things off gave me instant relief.
(Buckle up it’s a long list)
🤢 Motion / Animation (core nausea triggers)
Settings → Accessibility → Motion
• ✅ Reduce Motion — ON
• ❌ Auto-Play Message Effects — OFF
• ❌ Auto-Play Video Previews — OFF
• ❌ Prefer Cross-Fade Transitions — OFF
(Even fades can trigger dizziness for some people)
⸻
👁️ Visual effects that feel “floaty” or unstable
Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size
• ❌ Increase Contrast — OFF
(High contrast can exaggerate movement edges)
• ❌ Reduce Transparency — OFF
(If this is ON, backgrounds blur/shift oddly)
• ❌ Differentiate Without Color — OFF
• ❌ Smart Invert — OFF
• ❌ Classic Invert — OFF
⸻
🔍 Zoom & focus-shift culprits
Settings → Accessibility → Zoom
• ❌ Zoom — OFF
Settings → Accessibility → Accessibility Shortcut
• Make sure Zoom is unchecked so it can’t toggle accidentally.
⸻
🧠 Attention & tracking features (BIG hidden triggers)
Settings → Accessibility → Eye Tracking
• ❌ Eye Tracking — OFF
Settings → Accessibility → Head Tracking
• ❌ Head Tracking — OFF (if present)
⸻
🖼️ System visuals that subtly move
Settings → Wallpaper
• ❌ Perspective Zoom — OFF
(Parallax wallpaper is a huge motion-sickness culprit)
⸻
🎮 Touch / motion responses
Settings → Accessibility → Touch
• ❌ Haptic Touch — OFF (or set to Slow)
(Micro-delays + vibration can feel disorienting)
⸻
🔔 Notifications & Lock Screen motion
Settings → Notifications
• Display As → List (not Stack)
• ❌ Show Previews → Always OFF
(Previews animate in/out more than you realize)
⸻
🌐 Safari & web motion (people forget this one)
Settings → Safari
• ❌ Motion & Orientation Access — OFF
• ❌ Automatically Play Videos — OFF
⸻
🎥 App-specific ones worth checking
Some apps override system settings:
• Instagram / TikTok / Facebook
Look for “Reduce motion”, “Disable animations”, or “Autoplay” in in-app settings.
• Maps
Turn off 3D, compass rotation, and tilt.
