On June 2, the Lac Ste. Anne 4-H District held their annual show, and it was fantastic to see the next generation of livestock enthusiasts continuing to excel with animals from Rainbow Genetics!

We’re incredibly proud to share that both the Supreme Female and Reserve Supreme Female titles were awarded to projects purchased by juniors at our dispersal sale. Congratulations to Gunnar Benson and Heidi Pas on your well-deserved wins!

We also want to extend a shoutout to all the other members who brought their hard work and dedication to the ring — your efforts don’t go unnoticed.

Wow! It’s been nearly a week since sale day and I’m still not sure it’s sank in.

The Larkaba cow family is our largest and one of the most productive. One of the features is this two year, lot 16. Her sire Headstrong left behind one of the best sets of two year old red angus females we’ve seen and this young cow is one of the top cows. Huge middled, exceptionally flexible and weaned her first bull calf off at 840 lbs at 205 days.

It was quite a way to end our final show ever at Rainbow Red Angus. The 2023 Canadian Western Agribition will be one to remember.

Lot 107 in the dispersal, Blairswest Erica 77J, was First Lady Futurity Champion, Grand Champion Black Angus female and Top 10 in the supreme for ourselves and partners, Triangle K Simmentals and Angus.

Huge thanks to everyone that helped along the way, especially the crew at Blairswest, you guys rock! The overwhelming compliments about this female has truly been something we will appreciate for a long time.

Now December 4 is your opportunity to secure part of one of the best Erica daughters out there. This ride is just getting going.

Although our black program is in it’s infancy, we believe we’ve sourced out some of the best genetics around.

In the sale, this cow will lead off the black section. She is Blairswest Erica 77J, a daughter of the immortal Bar-e-l Erica 74A and Brooking Firebrand.

For us she’s ideal in nearly every aspect of what an angus two year needs to be. Soft made, long spined, good looking, and if you think her udder needs changed, you probably need to reevaluate how you look at udders.

Her calves speak for them selves as well, both bulls and females. And as you can see from the picture she’s doing a pretty good job on her natural born bull calf.

She capped off her week at Farmfair International last week making Top 5 in Supreme

Big bodied, broody, feminine and maternal looking, with a little extra presence. That’s the kind we like, and the kind we strive to produce. We started picturing bred heifers yesterday, and think this group really shows that. 4 different sires, and 4 cow families represented in these six heifers pictured.

This is the only milking maternal sib to the $60k Metric, and is a strong candidate to lead things off on December 4.

Our #1 goal has always been to produce functional cattle, but we also acknowledge that we like to look at them too. Pictured here are two flushmates. The bottom female was purchased by Peyton Christman and had a stellar show run last fall being reserve grand champion female at Red Roundup and Farmfair. The top one is a two year old that is doing everything we expect, along with her mid Feb calf. Get bred early, calve unassisted, raise a big calf and breed back early again.

Sometimes you can have your cake, and eat it too!
