Join the City of Fernie and Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi ‘it - To***co Plains Indian Band First Nation at City Hall on Wednesday, September 30 at 10:00 a.m. for a morning of reflection and remembrance on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

A short ceremony and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding will be followed by a Truth and Reconciliation Walk.

Together, we honour Residential School Survivors, the children who never returned home, their families and communities, while acknowledging the lasting intergenerational impacts of residential schools.

Temporary road closures will be in place downtown during the event.

Bear Warning – Floe Lake Trail and Campground and Numa Pass

Parks Canada has issued a bear warning for the Floe Lake Trail and Campground and Numa Pass area in Kootenay National Park. A female grizzly bear and yearling cubs have been reported frequenting the area and displaying curious behaviour, including investigating bear-proof food storage lockers at the campground. A solo hiker was also bluff charged by the adult female.

Visitors travelling in the area or staying at the campground should exercise additional caution.

Parks Canada recommends:
▶Travelling in groups of four or more
▶Always storing food and other scented items in the provided bear-proof lockers.
▶Always carry bear spray and know how to use it
▶Always keep your pets on-leash.
▶Make noise and watch for fresh signs of bear activity like bear s**t.
▶If you see a bear, give it space and consider leaving the area.

Good Morning Area F! Today the Rolling Barrage will be riding through Area F this afternoon. After stopping for a break at the Crossroads Esso at 3 pm (ish) they will leave at 4 pm to continue down Hwy 93/95 to Cranbrook.

Show your support for Veterans and Active Duty personnel in the Military, RCMP, and First Responders who are living with PTSD. Come out to the Esso or stand safely along the highway and give them a wave of appreciation and support.
