Trade experience meets community trust

After more than 20 years working in plumbing and heating, Cranbrook's Nic Gawletz took his hands-on knowledge of homes in a new direction by launching Next Adventure Home Inspections.

Three years later, Gawletz remains a hands-on, sole operator who personally guides clients through the inspection process, explains potential concerns and answers questions long after the report is complete.

In a recent KootenayBiz interview, Gawletz talks about making the career transition, building relationships with local real estate professionals and helping homebuyers make informed decisions about one of life's biggest investments.

From getting innovative technology approved to navigating freight costs and manufacturing challenges in a small community, Bruce explains what it takes to grow a food business in the Kootenays while creating local jobs and reaching new markets.

Zero fees. Sounds pretty good, right?

But when it comes to investing and financial advice, the number on the price tag may not tell the whole story.

In her latest column, Ainsley Mackie of Verecan Capital Management looks at the costs we can see, the costs we often overlook and why “free” financial services still deserve a closer look.

From investment decisions and taxes to financial advice and human behaviour, she explores a bigger question: What are you actually getting for the price you’re paying?
