I’m pi**ed ... and not in a cute ‘marketing frustration’ way.
Do advisors, whose entire job is helping entrepreneurs, actually understand what goes on out there?
I’ve been in a few conversations lately where business owners walked away feeling talked down to by the very people meant to support them.
You know the type... armed with "fill out this sheet" and “shoulds,” but not a clue what it’s like to actually run a business when the stakes are real.
I swear to gawd, some of them just don’t get it.
Yes, there are fantastic advisors who do. The ones who listen before they speak. Who meet founders where they are. Who know that success doesn’t always follow a formula.
But too many others are pushing their own agendas instead of asking better questions. They’re so busy rolling out their topics, their talking points, their way of doing things.
And worse... they’re assuming what certain founders can or can’t accomplish.
Yeah! True story!
If you’ve never spoken to a business owner, taken time to understand their model, or even asked for references about their work… why would you dismiss them as unreliable? Or unable to deliver the very thing they say they do?
That’s not support — that’s judgment! 😡
Real advising starts with curiosity.
With shutting up long enough to actually hear the person you’re supposed to be helping.
Because entrepreneurs don’t need more fluff advice.
They need boots-on-the-ground insight from people who’ve been in the weeds, understand the challenges, and know how to climb out of them.
Not another “read this article” or “take this course” cop-out — real, roll-up-your-sleeves strategy that actually moves the needle. 🤮
If you’re in the business of advising lead with curiosity.
It’s the fastest way to earn credibility and respect.
🧐So, to my entrepreneurs out there, have you recently had a conversation with someone who was disheartened after a conversation with an advisor? Was it based on fact or fiction?
