Today at Y Station we get to celebrate an incredible milestone: our brilliant Emily Mack has been with Y Station (and its predecessor companies, haha) for 20 years. 🥳

If you are a client or partner, you may not have met Emily, but she is a critical part of virtually everything we do. Every survey, engagement tool, data set, presentation, or report goes through (and is improved by) Emily first. She is the master of the cross-tab, has programmed thousands of surveys, and is the first analytical mind we rely on for insight.

Beyond her expertise, Emily is a hilarious, generous, and patient colleague, possessing a quiet exuberance toward life. Every success we’ve had has been shaped by her. Here's to another 20 years, Emily!

In late Summer and Fall of 2024, Y Station had the opportunity to provide public survey research and coding services for Transitional Solutions Inc. in their development of the After Action Review of the 2023 Northwest Territories wildfire season—one of the most significant public safety events in the territory’s history.

Released last month, the review offers an objective, third-party analysis of what happened, what worked, and what needs to improve to protect public safety during major emergencies. These reviews are not about blame, they're about learning and adaption.

Unfortunately, as climate-driven disasters become more frequent, these kinds of reports will become more prevalent.

It is essential that the public have unwavering trust around the process, outcomes, and recommendations that these reports produce. Working with TSI and an independent review committee we ensured the survey was available online, offline, in multiple languages and that the outreach reflected a diversity of audiences to capture a full spectrum of experiences. Every part of the process, including result reporting, was designed to strengthen confidence in the findings and the systems they inform.

We were proud to work for a partner and a government committed to truth, transparency, and public safety.

Visitation to Banff National Park grew 31% between 2013 and 2023, which has been putting strain on their programs and infrastructure, not to mention added challenges for protecting cultural and natural resources.

We’ve been working with the team at Parks Canada to conduct research to inform their Visitor Use Management planning to understand what the public feels is most important when it comes to keeping the Lake Louise area safe, fun, accessible, and protected.

The What We Heard report for the first phase of this process is out now and it’s full of fascinating insight from the 1,000+ people who provided their input.

We were very proud to be the research partner with Alberta Women's Health Foundation for their latest report, "Shining the Light: The Choices, Challenges, & Considerations around Contraceptives.”

AWHF has made it clear: Contraception is more than birth control—it’s a vital tool for women’s health—but the results of this research shows that women still face major barriers, like misinformation, stigma, and limited healthcare options.

For instance, while 86% of Albertans know about birth control pills and condoms, awareness of other options—like patches, implants, and injections—drops to just 27%.

And when it comes to contraception, 63% of people turn to healthcare providers for guidance, yet only 54% find them trustworthy.

This report is a first important step in expanding the conversation about contraception to address gaps, dispel misinformation, and depoliticize women’s health rights.

Thank you to AHWF for on such an important topic, and for the opportunity to partner with you again. You can read the full report here: https://www.albertawomenshealthfoundation.org/public/download/files/257536

The people who make up our team are more than just producers of work or cogs in a wheel. They’re storytellers, data hounds and relationship builders who are equally as dedicated to supporting each other as they are to our clients. 🙌

We don’t need a dedicated day to recognize how amazing the Y Station team is—but it doesn’t hurt.

For generations, women's health has been underfunded and under-researched, resulting in discrepancies and male bias in care and treatment. 🧬 💬

The Alberta Women's Health Foundation (AWHF) was founded to raise awareness of these gaps and we're proud to have played a part in their first research study Finding the Fractures: The Pandemic, Women's Health Disparities, and the Path to Equity.
