What we’re using in our homeschool this year:
We have just one kid still homeschooling, in Grade 8. We are using lots of different things this year!
For LA, we are using Essentials in Writing, along with book studies from various sources, including The Waldock Way (Holes and The Giver), Campfire Curriculums (A Christmas Carol), The Inclusive Mrs C (The Hunger Games-from TpT), ReedNovelStudies.org (Heidi), Walk by Faith (Anne of Green Gables-from TpT), and Literary Adventures for Kids (I Am Malala-Young Reader’s Edition).
For math, she is using The Good and the Beautiful Pre-Algebra course.
For social studies, we are using Guest Hollow, LLC Jr. Geography and Cultures. This includes recommendations for TONS of books to read, videos to watch, activities to do, food to make, etc. This picture shows a very small sampling of resources we’ll use for this!
We’re also using some pages from The Waldock Way mini units for the “Where Is/Was…” books that are pictured (and are scheduled into the Guest Hollow course).
She’s also doing the History plus in-person workshops and online lessons.
We like to use unit studies for science, so we’re doing some from The Good and the Beautiful and some from Campfire Curriculums, including The Titanic unit, which is more of a history unit, but we’ll be focusing on the science portions in the Core Connections.
As a family, we’ll be going through the Campfire Curriculums Passport to Adulthood and Financial Stewardship, and our daughter wanted to study Greek mythology on her own, as she’s loving Percy Jackson books right now, so she’ll be using the Greek Heroes and Myths from The Waldock Way.
We might not make it through it all, and that’s okay, but as she’s older and can work fairly independently, we should get through most of it and she’s going to learn a ton along the way (and hopefully have some fun)!
Let me know if you have questions about any of these products and I’ll do my best to answer them!
