Did you know?!
Stimming is how many autistic people regulate their emotions. It helps them feel safe, calm, and in control โ€” especially in overwhelming environments. Itโ€™s not something that needs to be stopped. It needs to be understood.

Taking a picture of your child with ASD?
You unlock a special parenting skill (maybe):

โ€” Snap the photo faster than lightning.

This is Skye every time I ask for a picture.
Heโ€™s not a fan of it, but he gives it his all โ€” and that means everything.

Progress doesnโ€™t always smile for the cameraโ€ฆ but it shows up anyway.

You used to resist it, but we made a dealโ€”starting with 3, then 5, then 10, and now, a whole page feels fast and easy. It took patience and understanding, but we got there.

Me: No. 1. But-ton
Skye: No! Not button! Itโ€™s "bu-uhn"!
Me: Ha? Again?
Skye: "bu-uhn"
Me: Oh sorry Skyeโ€ฆ
Skye: Thatโ€™s okayโ€ฆ

Me: No. 5. Gar-den
Skye: Donโ€™t say it like that!
Me: Teach me how to say it properly.
Skye: Itโ€™s "gaa-duhn".

Me: Oh okay. Thank you, Skye, for teaching Mommy. I appreciate the lesson today.
Skye: Youโ€™re welcome.

Before you started therapy, you could barely say a word. Now, your therapists and interventionists are so happy with your progress. You still have a long way to go, but youโ€™ve come so far.

As a mom, what hurts me the most is when people call Skye 'weird'...

Skye sees the world differently, with a unique and beautiful perspective that comes from being on the autism spectrum. It breaks my heart when others donโ€™t see the magic in his uniqueness and only label him with hurtful words. Letโ€™s all strive to understand, accept, and celebrate neurodiversity. Every child deserves to be seen for who they truly are.
