Today, September 30, Black Business Edmonton observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We remember the children who never returned home from residential schools and honour Survivors, their families, and their communities.
We recognize the ongoing impacts of residential schools on First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples, and honour their strength, cultures, and enduring voices.
As a community organization, BBE believes we share a responsibility to listen, learn, and build respectful relationships with Indigenous communities. This includes challenging racism, supporting Indigenous businesses and initiatives, and creating space for Indigenous voices to be heard on their own terms.
We encourage our community to wear orange, learn from Indigenous-led resources, reflect on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, and carry that learning into everyday decisions.
Reconciliation requires ongoing action, accountability, and care, today and throughout the year.
