As a social media manager, your time and energy are valuable. The wrong clients can drain both, making it harder to show up for the ones who truly align with your work. Saying no is just as important as saying yes.

Red flags to watch for:
🚩 Unrealistic expectations like instant growth or viral success
🚩 Budget constraints that do not align with your pricing
🚩 No clear goals or direction for their business
🚩 Micromanagement that makes it impossible to do your job
🚩 Overstepping boundaries before you have even started

If a client is not the right match, handle it professionally. Be honest, start with gratitude, and if possible, offer alternatives. A polite no today could lead to a referral or a better opportunity later.

The right clients are out there. You just have to make space for them. Have you ever turned down a client who was not the right fit?

Not every client is meant to be part of your journey, and that’s completely okay. As a social media manager, protecting your time, energy, and business is essential. Saying yes to the wrong clients can lead to stress, frustration, and a workload that doesn’t align with your goals.

How to know when a client isn’t the right fit:
🚫 They expect instant results or viral success overnight
🚫 Their budget doesn’t match the value of your services
🚫 They have no clear goals and expect you to figure everything out for them
🚫 They micromanage every step instead of trusting your expertise
🚫 They overstep boundaries before you’ve even started working together

If you notice these red flags, it’s okay to walk away. Declining professionally keeps the relationship positive and leaves the door open for future referrals. Thank them for the opportunity, be honest, and if possible, suggest another solution that better fits their needs.

The right clients are out there. You just have to make space for them.

It’s that time of year when you’re scrambling to find the perfect gift for everyone on your list. And if you’ve got a social media manager in your life, you might be wondering what could possibly bring joy to someone who’s always online, juggling content calendars, and coming up with snappy one-liners. The truth is, social media managers are superheroes in disguise—but even superheroes need a little extra love during the holidays. So, if you’re looking to gift them something that says, “I appreciate all your hard work,” I’ve got you covered with a few thoughtful (and totally useful) ideas.

🎄 Noise-Canceling Headphones—For when they need to drown out the world and focus on creating those killer captions.

🎄 Blue Light Glasses—Protect their eyes from endless hours of screen time. Plus, they’ll look extra smart during Zoom meetings.

🎄 Reusable Coffee Cup—Fuel for those early-morning content planning sessions.

🎄 Planner/Notebook—Sure, everything’s digital, but there’s something magical about scribbling ideas in a fresh notebook (especially when it’s Instagrammable).

🎄 Fancy Phone Stand—Perfect for those impromptu Reels and TikTok shoots that require just the right angle.

✨ Bonus points if you add a gift card for their caffeine of choice because, let’s face it—we run on coffee and deadlines.

Currents Marketing 2024 Wrapped!

What a year it’s been—packed with creativity, collaboration, and probably way too much caffeine. Here’s a glimpse at what we got up to (and how we helped our clients shine on social media):

📱 6,101 Posts Created
Yep, we’ve been busy turning out scroll-stopping content. Some might even call us 'overachievers.' Feeds = fresh. Audiences = hooked. Thumbs = tired (but worth it).

💡 1,740 Content Ideas Brainstormed
Let’s just say the whiteboards worked overtime. Big ideas, small ideas, wild ideas—we put it all out there to help our clients stand out.

☕ 784 Caffeinated Beverages Consumed
Fuel for the creative fire. We’re equal opportunity drinkers—coffee, tea, you name it.

📖 630 Stories Shared
We kept things genuine and relatable and helped our clients connect with their clients even further. Pro tip: storytelling > selling every time.

💻 12,480 Minutes on Zoom
That’s a lot of virtual high-fives and “Can everyone see my screen?” moments. Worth it for all the brainstorming and planning magic.

📧 780 Emails Sent
Smooth, steady communication = happy clients and even happier projects. Bonus: only two accidental “Reply All” mishaps this year. 😅

Here’s to an incredible 2024 and an even brighter 2025! Let’s keep the creativity (and caffeine) flowing.

When I first started out as a social media manager, I felt this huge pressure to create the “perfect” website—something sleek, polished, and totally impressive. I thought it had to look like I had everything figured out, even though I definitely didn’t! But, like many others, I didn’t have the budget for a professional designer or the time to learn all the ins and outs of web development. Instead, I used platforms like Wix, Squarespace, and Canva to get my website off the ground. And honestly? That was enough to get started.

As your business evolves, you can invest in a web designer or SEO expert to help elevate your site, but in the beginning, focus on the basics. Create a homepage that speaks to your ideal clients, an about page that shares your story, a services page that clearly explains what you offer, and make sure it’s easy for clients to reach you. It doesn’t need to be perfect—it needs to be functional and accessible. Your website is a reflection of your brand, but it can and should grow as you do.

Don’t let the idea of perfection stop you from taking the first step. Focus on launching with the essentials, and build from there as your business allows.

To list your prices on your website or not? That’s a question I get all the time.

Here’s the thing: including your pricing can save you a lot of back-and-forth with potential clients. If you’re upfront about your rates, you filter out the leads that don’t fit your budget right away—and that means more time for the clients who are ready to invest.

On the other side, listing prices can sometimes scare people off before they fully understand the value of what you do. They see a number but might not realize the time, strategy, and expertise behind it. That’s why some social media managers prefer to have a consultation first, to walk clients through what they’ll actually be getting.

So what’s the right answer? Honestly, it depends on your business. If you offer standard packages, maybe give a price range or a “starting at” number. If everything you do is custom, you might want to skip listing prices and focus on booking consultations.

The key is figuring out what works best for you and your clients. And don’t be afraid to test it out!

If you’re a social media manager, whether just starting out or looking to update your current website, it can feel overwhelming. With so many well-designed sites out there, it’s easy to feel stuck and unsure where to begin. I’ve been there too—facing that bottleneck of overthinking and not making any progress. But the truth is, you don’t need all the bells and whistles right away.

Start with the essentials: a clean homepage that clearly communicates who you are and what you offer, an about section that tells your story, a services page that outlines how you can help clients, and your contact information. Once you have these, you’re ready to launch. From there, you can gradually build and refine your site as your business grows.

Don’t let perfectionism hold you back! The goal is to create a functional and professional site that helps clients find you and learn how you can solve their problems. Take it one step at a time, and your website can grow alongside your business.

Not sure how to build a portfolio when you’re just starting out? Don’t worry, I’ve been there too! You don’t need a long list of client work to showcase your skills. Here’s how to build a portfolio that stands out, even if you’re just getting started:

✨ Mock Projects: Create a sample social media strategy for your dream brand. Break down how you’d help them improve their engagement, and boom—you’ve got a killer example of what you can do.

✨ Personal Accounts: Yep, your own social profiles count! If you’ve grown a following or created an awesome content plan for yourself, show that off! Your future clients want to see that you know your stuff.

✨ Highlight Experience: Maybe you’ve helped a friend’s small business or managed a page at a previous job. Include that! You’ve got relevant experience even if it’s not “official” client work.

And don’t forget—visuals are everything. Screenshots, case studies, and even quick video walkthroughs of past projects can help potential clients see the value you bring.

Your portfolio doesn’t have to be perfect. It just needs to show what makes you great at what you do! If you want to chat about what you've got so far, let's set up a meeting, I'd love to see!

Let's talk about some homepage must-haves for social media managers.

Your homepage is the first impression your clients get—so it's important to make it count! Whether you’re just starting or updating your site, it’s all about speaking directly to your ideal clients.

First things first—grab their attention with a headline that talks about their needs, not just your services. Think "Helping small businesses grow online" instead of "Social Media Manager." Make them feel like they’re in the right place from the get-go.

Next, focus on the value you bring. It’s not just about listing services but showing them the results they can expect. For example, instead of “I manage Instagram accounts,” say something like, “I help you grow a loyal following and boost engagement.”

Keep the design clean and simple, with a clear call-to-action. Whether it’s “Book a Consultation” or “Get in Touch,” make it super easy for them to take the next step.

Your homepage doesn’t need to be over-the-top fancy—it just needs to clearly show who you are, how you help, and why you’re the perfect fit for your dream clients.
